Sports Exhaust System and Induction Kit for a 993
Discussion
Dave, do a search on the Porsche forum over the last 6 months. The topic has been covered. You will get more than a few thoughts there.
However, in a nutshell, judging from Scottster's experience with his induction/exhaust tuned 993 Carrera (not C4)...
...the sports exhaust (from Haywood(?) and Scott I think) gave the car much more character and was a lot louder than standard - tailpipes were less subtle tho' so you may want to retain original tips.
...the sports air box could have been drilled himself - looked like an 80 quid rip off to me, although when combined with the KN did give a raspier induction noise. Maybe drill the box yourself and just get the KN.
...combined with a rechip at AmD, he got his power up from 272 to about 285 (correct me if I'm wrong Dave!). How much of that is chip, exhaust, filter is anyone's guess.
Cheers

My car was fitted with the Techart kit when I bought it. I think it is probably worth doing for the sound alone!!
I seem to spend most of my time driving around with the windows down and the CD off just listening to the soundtrack... Power and torque change little I think 9M says the 964 responds better to this treatment and an ECU re-map is needed to make any real gains (10-15 BHP). Is your car pre or post varioram?

Thanks for the info guys. My car is a Varioram type (from 96 onwards) and you are correct that the non Varioram was 272 bhp with Varioram being 285.
Both Hayward and Scott and Techart have the characteristics I am looking for , by your comments, so will contact them both for further info.

If you want to hear a varioram + motorsound airbox car with Robin Sun's RSR exhaust conversion let me know. www.p-car.com for details of the exhaust. No affiliation, etc., just a satisfied customer.
