Anyone know how much impact on the price there is when a car has been stolen and then recovered. Apparently just the wheels, bumpers, stereo etc were taken on the car in question and it's been fully OPC repaired.

Sounds like a better way of getting a bargain that a crash damaged car.

Anyone got any thoughts, experience, knowledge?

Hi there, yes they can be bargains but they can also be a nightmare. You have to consider how it was stolen - windows broken, damaged locks, damaged ignition, cut wiring under the dash, alarm etc. How was it driven by the thieves? Not likely to be carefully! How many kerbs did they drive over, how many times did they hit the rev limiter etc.

Just some things to think about, but if it really was repaired by an OPC it should have been done properly and you won't have to worry about most of those things.

Cheers,
Bryn.

If it on the VCAR as stolen / recovered then treat is as a cat D write off. Massive variation in what happened to them & what needed to be done to repair. Possible the main dealers did a repair but highly unlikely (if on VCAR).

Every stolen recovered car offered for sale only has only had the wheels nicked and the ignition barrel broken just as every second hand engine offered for sale has always done 40-60k miles !

Tread carefully, make sure you know exactly what you`re looking at or be happy the person selling it does and will shoot from the hip.

Some good points Henry/Bryn.

I've asked some pretty detailed, specific questions of the seller and await his answers.
