I have been looking for a 996 at around £25k
and seems to be a choice between 40,000 miles
with LHD or 80,000+ RHD. What are the pros and
cons for both please? I would want to keep it
for a few years and am not too concerned with
re-sale value as both situations affect the
price anyway. This wouldn't be my daily driver,
just a weekend toy.

Thanks

I have a LHD Boxster which I bought because it was a lot cheaper and it has had a lot of use in Germany. I love it. It has never caused me any difficulty driving it here, but you will not find it easy if/when you try to sell it again.

If you do think about this, check out the Porsche Gebrauchtwagensuche on the Porsche Deutschland website. You may be surprised at the range and value available.

And the same advice applies to 996, 993 and anything else you care to name.

Acording to some posts on here lately you can get a good RHD 996 for way less than £25k, but then again I am always saying prove it.

lose a mortgage on a LHD 996.
Wouldn't have a problem with LHD 996 if it was a Turbo/GT3/GT2, obviously more desirable and easy to sell.
I had a LHD Turbo 2 965, sold it to a guy in Sweden, albeit the 965's are rare/desirable thus good money was made.

If i was you i would opt for high mile RHD 996, (cheap) and all the issues should have been sorted.

There are a few 996's with gallactic miles advertised +100k... anybody any experience they can share with this type of mileage? The difference in price is maybe only £5k-£7k which could be eaten up pretty quickly with one major fault? Are there any key specialists who provide pre-purchase checks etc??

My 996 is currently sitting at 107k and it hasnt missed a beat - I do on average 1000 miles a week (based in London, live in Newcastle) so 700 miles of that is motorway miles.

I can honestly say that once my car hit the magic 100k it bottomed out on the depreciation front - again, without sounding like our friend Henry F - condition is everything - It has full OPC history and if anything needs doing it gets done - if I had bought a low mileage 996 it would have cost an extra 10k and with the miles I do it would have been sold as a high mileage example (with the price adjusted down accordingly) so forget the miles if its going to be a daily driver - these cars wear their miles well if you look after them.

LHD or RHD... check out the race cars on track and then make a decision
Also LHD is better for aiming into the puddles in the gutter
