Ok so i'm new to this game(porsche)but when i try to start the boxter i can turn the key and the dash lights come on, but when i then turn to start the car nothing, try again and after a number of attempts it's ok. Then turn off and try again no problem, leave for some time and, back to problem(wife sems to be better than me at it) Don't think its starter or battery so has any one got any ideas?

If it's a tiptronic try wiggling the lever or moving it to neutral before starting. If this cures the problem it means the contacts that tell the ecu that the car is in park are dirty.

If its not a tiptronic, I don't know.

yes It's the switch. Common problem apparently as they seem to wear out fairly quickly, compared to a lot of other cars at least.

Mine required you to give it a 1/6th of a turn back after you hard started it to reactivate the wipers, headlights, A/c etc. Good indy shouldn't see you parting with nuch more than 200 notes as the part is £64ish and it's about 2-2 1/2 hours of dash stripping and rebuilding to fit the new part.

Best get it done sooner rather than when you are stuck in the most visable bay at Sainsbury's on a saturday at 4.30pm ('cause you just know that that's when it will cry its last!!!)
