Bellagio is a great town to stay on Lake Como. Hotel Metropole was good and convenient for getting the car ferry across the lake to head into Switzerland (sadly didn't get to do that).

Also, Bellagio Point wine bar and internet cafe is a great little place.

I'm driving down to the GP too. I can highly recommend the Hermitage. Spectacular views of the circuit, plus you can park your car there - or rather the valet will.
Watch out for the Monogasque police - especially if you have anything resembling a speed camera detector - they take a very dim view of the british motorist speeding around their principality and the can be unpleasant. Definitely head up to Rocquebrune which is a beautiful little village above Monaco - amazing views of Monte Carlo and the Cote d'Azur.

IMO, give Milan a wide berth and head over to the other coast (Rimini area) via Modena - it's beautiful plus the roads are great. Be prepared for plenty of Italians in their Fiats wanting to take you on. Enjoy!

Great road but lately it has had lots of radar so be carefull.
They also use things that look like binoculars hand held on a single pole for checking speed and after you pass gendarme will jump out from side of road to nab you. They have a campaign against speeding running (especially if you have UK plates!).
Enjoy the trip.

shit!!!! going there next week. although to be fair we will be running only the first half from Grenoble to Gap in hired Clio's so we are unlikely to break the speed limit......

Cool, thanks for the info. Will definitely see if I can squeeze in Route Napolean. Out of interest, what is the policy on speeding on the continent? Is just an on-the-spot fine or can it end up as points on your UK license too?

Also was planning on doing Modena/San Agata for the Ferrari/Lambo factory tours but I don't think i can quite squeeze it in on my already hectic schedule!!

No points but they are really cracking down and you can get an instant ban if you are caught going well over the speed limit (this happened to Evo mag a few months back). I got two 100 euro fines in the space of two hours last year and i was only doing 99mph and 100mph at the time! Think the GB plates attract them too!

More than 25kph over they can give you instant ban 50kph or more they can take your car PERMANENTLY! Ouch.
I have a place off the N75 and am around this area alot and beleive me they do have lots of traps.
The fixed camara ones they do not as yet send on a fine but am sure they will in time.
