After my C4S what do i get - opinions please

I've driven both, my thought were first the 996 tt, it was planted to the road as went like sh#t of a shovel and i was very impressed after i was thinking my C4S was fleet, I drove bikes for years my fireblade was my favourite, the 996 tt was like a 4 wheeled bike. Vey similar to my C4S to drive, just with bigger balls! Couldn't fault it apart from being to quiet....

The 997 S was more refined, bags of grip, slightly more crisp drive and plenty fast enough for what i'll use it for and it looks slightly sleeker than the more muscular 996 tt. Nice interior and classic styling more like the early 911's were things i also liked

To be honest between the 2 i don't know which one buy, but driving a rover is making me ill, i need one or the other sooner rather than later.... before i die of boredom

Who's the winner???

I'll be after a 997 turbo in a couple of years (Jeremey Clarkson is a clown by the way) he drove the car at night (tosspot) on the test and never let the stig take it on the track as it would of gave the big cars a real scare!!

I've driven the 997S and passengered in a number of 996TT's. Whilst undoubtedly the interior of the 997 is a nicer place to do ones driving, for me at least the extra punch offered by the 996TT wins the day. I still hope that when I d get one I'll be able to take it to VMAX.

i prefer the 997 S

But if all u want is to go very fast get the tt, the 997 S is so much fun though.

The 997 also looks so much nicer, and more modern.

997 Turbo would be the best choice is you have a spare 99k

Just been through this dilemma myself and although the 997 interior is far superior to the 996 I still think the 996tt is a better car. The extra power makes up for the 997S handling advantage in the real world and I love to hear those turbos go whooosssshhhhhh!
Although in my case the extra power is quite a bit extra

996 twin turbo all day long you'll soon get bored with the power of the 997's average power for a car of that sort of ££££££££££ if you get use to 996tt power an extra 70bhp and loads more torque is only a map/program away that's before you even changed the turbo's to nice fancy ones! think about it you must like power or else why spend thousans £££££££££ on a porsche 911 yes i know looks character etc but power is a massive factor for most.Just my 2 penny's worth IMHO.

Are we not comparing 2wd cars with 4wd cars though?Very different handling charateristics and certainly the latter imo offers much better handling on the road.Does the 997s handle better than the 997tt then?

I am not sure whether Handling was the correct term but the NA 997 S is far easier to balance on the throttle, I agree in the 996tt you can just plant the right foot and watch as the car ALMOST defies belief with its cornering ability but for me I personally got more fun from the NA 911 when it coame to handling.

I don't think for a moment that a 997 S could keep pace with a turbo driven down a twisty lane but for me the Naturally Aprirated car is more enjoyable.

If I lived in Germany where travelling at the speeds of a light aircraft is LEGAL than I can't think of a better car to own the the Turbo'd Porsches.

Sadly, I do not - and in the 996tt I constantly found myself easing off the gas - I just could not enjoy myself when rationing myself to a 3-4 sec application of full-throttle then having to back-off again.

I agree that 4wd prob. offers better traction/grip (that's not 'handling') out of corners especially in wet. 2wd offers sweeter 'handling' though, IMO. Anyway I'm off for a blast in my new runabout - a ClioV6 - not very good handling OR grip but great fun! yikes

It is partly the 2wd/4wd thing but also the Turbo has extra couple of passengers to lug about all the time....similar to GT3/Turbo debate. C2S is just nimbler driving

I agree i really liked the 997s as a drive even compared to the 997tteekfor the reasons you mention..having said that imo the 996tt felt as good and more 'Porsche-like'than the rather sterile over-engineered 997tt when i drove them back to back.997tt is probably the most accomplished car i have driven but it does seem to have lost a lot of traditional character of Porsche, which i think the 997s retains.

funny - I found the interior of the 997 too fussy. the 996 was more my taste.

Look at it this way,

a) if someone askes what car do you have and you say a Porker, they will 7/10 times ask (if they know anything about cars) ask if its the Turbo?

b) Looking back when your old and grey, you will smile and be able to say I owned a Porsche turbo.

c) The rush of a tt is very addictive

d) How many vanilla 997s do you see -v- 996tt?
e) Cost and depreciation
f) Turbo is king and everyone knows it. If you get the 997s, every time you see a 996tt you will think, God That is the Daddy.

e) You will also have to wait until the 996tt driver acknolledges you to wave back. remember dont wave until your waven to - ,....

clearly there is no real world pecking order. - byebye
there - you can wave back now.

Drove the Turbo and found it boring. Still love my 997S, so each to their own.

What do you guys do to have a 'boring' ride in a 996TT, were you caught in traffic on the way to habitat ?
