Hi, I am new to this forum - but as I am thinking of buying a Boxster S I thought i would join you folks here.
I would like to ask a couple of things before i part with my hard earned. Firstly, is it correct that the clutch on a boxster is notoriously heavy. The car i am thinking of buying has a real stiff clutch (not as bad as say an old TVR but it is heavy). Secondly on startup the exhaust rattles a fair bit. After a couple of minutes however it settles down into that lovely burbley sound - any coments or advice would be much appreciated.

Boxster clutch should not be stiff or heavy. If it is then there's a fault. PPI would confirm. Likewise with the exhaust rattle.

BTW, what year is the Boxster?

Boxsters are very user friendly to drive and so the clutch shouldn't feel overly heavy or stiff - should be very easy to drive in heavy traffic without becoming tiresome. Sounds like it may have a problem - make sure you get a full inspection before buying and good luck.

Cheers - Erik.

The rattle from the exhaust sounds like the heat shields, should be a quite an easy one to fix.

The clutch on a boxster only becomes heavy when on its last legs. Sounds like the one you are looking at is quite worn.

Thanks for the info - could you give me an idea of how much it would cost to replace the clutch? The car is a year 2000 model with 55,000mls on the clock.

Hello

Sounds like the clutch is worn and pressure plate springs have become heavy.
Rattling can come from loose heatshields as securing bolts have rotted away, but get this checked prior to inspection.

We replace clutches on boxster S for £600 plus v.a.t fitted.
