My 1999 low milage 911 runs perfectly, no oil in water or water in oil, temp normal and no steam from the exaust. However it uses, or losses approx 1 L of water per 1000 miles. Any ideas

Can't say I've noticed mine lose any water at all....

But yes, it must be going somewhere - check all the rads and the header tank, then the pipes. Check the oil and check the exhaust after a run too.

I was losing similar amounts .. OPC found two small hose leaks when it was in for service a few weeks ago .. Seems to have cured it .

The most likely other cause is the beginning of header tank failure , usually begins with a hairline crack under the tank.

Anyway , have it pressure tested, and the leak will be found quick enough . The worry is that the engine could be running hot if the coolants mostly water at this stage...

Most favourite is header tank..been fitting quite a few header tank caps recently as they are blowing off too early and letting coolant out when switched off...

go get yourself a new filler cap, the old ones were faulty. 15 quid from an indy that should sort it IMO .
