Can anyone advise if the sill guards from the 987 will fit the 986.

Just got her, and trying to sort out some bits and bobs.

Whats the general opinion of 18" wheels over the 17" and what are the tyre of choice, I have to say the Conti's on it are pretty good considering they are nearing the end of their life.

Also looking for a CD storage box for the front cubby, anyone got one for sale??

I tried the search facility twice but crashed both times.

Exy you maybe haven't been on PH very long but the way it is on here is we all rib each other about our cars, I for instance drive a prehistoriic 911 that ejects more oil than saudi arabia.

However there are very few members that deserve to be spoken to in that manner after what was a little joke.

Lighten up.

And in reference to your O/P I would be amazed if they weren't interchangeable.

I doubt that the sill guards will fit - despite the 986 and 987 looking similar I believe there's not a single panel that's actually the same.

18" wheels - I have'em on my 986. In terms of handling they make no difference. The tyres are annoyingly more expensive though. Cosmetically they do fill the arches nicely.

Tyres - if you want the best tyres you need to pay the price. The best tyres for the 986 Boxster are without doubt Michelin Pilot Sport. Excellent wet and dry grip. Low road noise. Superb wear rate (they are TOUGH). Loadsamoney for a set of new boots all round, though.

If you do a lot of track days you might want to consider keeping your 17" wheels and putting some track day tyres on 'em. That way your expensive road tyres will not be fecked in 6000 miles like mine are. Without the track days they should do more like 20,000.

Thanks for that Don, I suspected as much but you know how it is, You can convince yourself of anything if you try hard enough.

I reckon I might just take your advice and buy a set of 18 inchers and keep the Boxster S 17" alloys (with Contis) for track days they are nicely scrubbed in. Will probably stump the extra for Michelins also, always had a soft spot for em. I don't suppose you or anyone else has a miracle (read cheap) cure for the flaking/rusting wheelnuts?

Dear Wildoliver, I have been a member of many forums over the years and I thought my comments were both apt and hilarious, I won't apoligise (unless, of course I hurt your feelings), after all whats next to a mans choice of car but the size of his weenie. At least I assume thats what 4sure is referring to, or do you actually own an MGB??? I thought it very gallant of you to set your machine to my setting before posting the picture, just as well it adjusts down EH!

Thanks again Don much appreciated.

Very perceptive, I have a 987 and some of those straighteners. They're GHD ceramics, those baby's do a 0-full temp in under 60 secs. You have fine taste sir.

Plus I am a 964 cabby driver so we get them as standard with the car, except ours dispense hot oil too!
