Stereo upgrade
Discussion
Hey y'all
My door speaker has started failing intermittently and it got me round to thinking about an audio upgrade for my 993. Went to see a local chap, seemed decent enough, and he recommended a Genesis Profile 2 amp and Dynaudio speaker system for the door speakers and tweeters (most of that is quoting from memory btw; I kind of glazed over when he was giving me the pitch). He was also on about putting a length of what looked like very heavy drainpipe in one of the rear footwells to create worthwhile bass.
Thing is, I like listening to music but I've no interest in ramming it down other people's ears. But I'm thinking that I'll need some work done anyway to fix the speaker as it's making me feel sea sick!
Anyhoo, he quoted £800 for the speaker kit, amp and installation, and reckoned my Kenwood head unit was man for the job so no need to change. Goes without saying that he promised the earth in terms of post installation sound quality.
So...anyone upgraded their 993 audio? Does this seem like a good idea/decent upgrade path/reasonable cost?
Suggestions and thoughts welcome.

For car audio the efficiency of the speaker is important. Most head units are 25watts, going from 88dB/watt speakers to 91dB/watt speakers is the same volume increase as putting in a 50watt head unit. My personal favourite mod (keeping an eye on efficiency) is to go dual cone, either Pioneer or JBL. Avoid rubbish with foam surrounds (at any price), you need a cloth or rubber surround.
If you want superb bass in a 911, either fit a big sub in the front firing into the passenger compartment (10" JBL + 150W amp) or buy a tubi exhaust

upgrade the front components, add a small amp to power the new components and you'll have at least 5x better sound for a fraction of the price you've been quoted. (example: I've just picked up a brand new set of MB Quart 6.5mids and tweeters for £45, along with a 95-era Rockford Fosgate 100x2 amp for £100. Been quoted £80 to install the lot. (going in the shopping trolley, in place of the crap factory setup).
if you decide that you still need more bass, get a custom stealth 8 or 10" sub enclosure fitted either in the boot or in the rear (you'll be amazed at the tiny dimensions required for some of subs thesedays - eg. 0.3cuFt). another option for bass is genesis make some 6x9 subs (not coaxials), these may fit the rear shelf.

Did you upgrade the rear speakers or just the door ones?
The audio bloke reckons leaving the rears will be ok.
I'd just do what you feel like when you feel like it - if you've got foam surrounds they will all disintegrate anway so you might as well check and replace as required. The audio bloke reckons leaving the rears will be ok.
I put some Pioneer TS-G1309 speakers in the back of one car which sounded very good - much better than the component alpines I had in the front! Not too bad at 89dB/W but not amazing.
By dual-cone I mean like these:
Funnily enough Halfords is quite good to listen to them - just avoid foam surrounds.
