Black wheels. Yes or no?
Discussion
Black all the way for me
, gives the car a more individual look with the added benefit of hiding the dreaded Brake Dust...
I used to have a Carbon Black e39 M5 with 19" ACS Split Rims, I had the centres Powdercoated Black and the Outer Lip hand polished, the amount of compliments I received was unreal. If you like to be a little different and enjoy your car being admired that little bit more, then I would definately go Black Centres.

Is your car navy, or black?
I reckon wheels to match the paint would look quite good

It's Basalt Black, so sometimes it's navy and sometimes it's black. The wheels would match.

Looks a bit KnightRider with black on black. If you have a perm and a penchant for leather trousers then it's for you

I agree with the Knightrider comment if the wheels are solid black, but an unpainted rim (think Fuchs) would lift it a bit. Not that there's anything wrong with perms or black leather trousers...

I'm about to do the same with my car. When the wheels get refinished this week (hollow-spoke Turbo), I'm getting them painted solid Basalt Black to match the body.
Will post pics when done so you can judge for yourself.

Where are you getting it done? Lepsons in Gillingham have quoted me £55 per wheel, a bit more to leave the rim unpainted.
Well my 997S is guards red and I have the black wheels and it looks the business to me. You will find that most owners spec cars how they want them with the exception of the colour of the car/wheels, this they leave to the dealers, so its usualy fall asleep silver car/wheels.
It depends if you have the courage to have want you want..most people tend to need 20 opinions before they can make a bloody colour choice! Then another 40 after they have chosen the colour just to be sure..Ime all for chat and Ideas but christ its just the colour..do what you like and you will find your balls will go from peanuts to conkers almost overnight!!

FAO ANDY TIMS
Rather than clog up this thread , I've sent you an e mail with a load of questions on your black wheels, and exactly how they were finished like that.
Look forward to your reply.

Clog away. Any details as to how, where and how much would be gratefully received. The wheels on the GT3 look great by the way.

Cheers for the compliments. As this re-furbed set are just for track use I did them myself using Hammerite smooth in spray cans.
I split the wheels, then sanded them down, the rims were well corroded, but the centres not too bad at all.
I gave both the rims & the centres about 4 / 5 coats. With the plastic centre caps, I just masked the logo's & sprayed them.
It's not a professional job, but I'm fairly pleased. The inners do seem to be prone the chipping a bit though so maybe I should have used an etch primer first?
If you're going to go for a pro job I think powder coated centres & anodised rims is the way to go. Nick Moss - www.early911.co.uk is worth a call depending on your location.
