993 Wheel Refurbishment
Discussion
I really must get the wheels sorterd on my 993. The back ones are okay, but both fron ones have a few blisters on them, the near side front is particularly tatty.
What's the best way to go about this? I got a quote from Wicked Wheels who do a mobile van same day service. They claim to do 40,000 wheels per year which suggests they must be doing something right. But then I'm thinking how can they refurb the wheels properly in such a short time, with the tyres still on. Anyone used them?
On the one hand I want to get them done, but on the oother I don't want the car off the road for long. Also, it's got pretty new tyres all round.

I've used these guys several times - 3 day turnaround, powdercoated wheels (so nice finish and very resilient to chips and so on) and not expensive:

Thanks VS,
I think these could be the choice for me. They are not too far away.
Can you take the wheels in with the tyres on, or do you have to get the tyres off first?
They seem to offer options for loose wheels, or leave the whole car.
I don't want to leave thecar, as I can't then get home. I can take the wheels, but they'll have tyres on them.
I could of course phone and ask, but thought you might know the anser.
Yeah you can take the wheels in with tyres, they charge about a tenner per wheel for tyre removal/refit/rebalance.
Have you checked the pick up service? Their van goes past my work in Bracknell on a Tuesday and a Friday and that's how i've used them before, i know they're much closer to Cambridge than Bracknell though. Worth an enquiry?

So, I've taken my front wheels off ready for refurbishment (the back ones are in great condition) and have a couple more questions:
1 - If I get only the front ones refurbished will they look completely different to the rears? Will I be able to polish up the rear wheels so it's not completely obvious?
2 - I'm thinking of getting a courier to take the wheels to the refurbishers. Can anyone recomend a courier and does anybody know what a 17" cup wheel with tyre actually weighs?
Cheers
Marc

It's not a stupid question at all.
I started balancing my car on some logs (that was stupid), then thought better of it, put the front wheels back on, and drove the car to the refurbishers. Left it for three days, and picked it up with "new" wheels on.
They'd even washed the car. I guess the dirty car wasn't helping to show off the shiny work on the wheels so they felt compelled to wash it. Or maybe they'd been competing in a local rally.

Blimey these guys are CHEAP!
I reckon 4x 17" wheels including tyre removal/refitting works out about £183 (including VAT)
Only question for me is courier costs...
Anyone know what a regular 17" 993 wheel weighs?

Total bill for me was £199 for all four wheels when I took the car to them.
It was cheaper if you send them loose wheels, but I estimated the courier cost to be over £100 and you have to pack each wheel in bubble wrap and cardboard. So I just drove the car over and left it with them.
If you don't live too far away, I'd recomend you do the same. They'll even drive you to Hemel station if you want.
