Why I love the German autobahn
Discussion
A very good friend of mine came to stay for the weekend. And we took the CTR out for a blast on sunday afternoon.

The film is really outlining how you can making progress on the bahn. One part shows us going through a series of corners at 160mph+ and i have to say the car felt absolutely. Incredible for a 20year thing....Unfortunetly we didt capture one bit where we actually caught a 996C2 "dawdling" in the outside lane of the clear bahn at 160mph. We came up on him at 190mph and flashed the brights to move him over!
Unfortunately youtube has the innate ability to pixellated speedos and their speeds. However at the end we hit 203mph on the GPS.
best,
adam

Couldn't get the video to work properly. It froze after a few seconds. Please check...
Strange, perhaps a youtube problem?
re: complete speed restrictions:I know it is crazy how the EU want to tell germany what to do....but merkel was having non of it and said no way

Cool video. What's more incredible is how everyone else is driving though. Obviously lane discipline still means something over there (although with cars approaching you at 200mph, I suppose it has to). Even the silver Skoda(?) gets out of the way pretty promptish.

... that's (sort of) what I was going to say.
You're obviously a handy driver, Adam, but does it not concern you that some mirror-ignoring fraulein could wander out in front of you when you've got a closing speed in 3 figures?
Scares the bejeesus out of me on UK motorways with a 20mph differential. There are too may dozy / tired / crap drivers out there, and I'm not convinced everyone on the autobahn is none of the above.
Wouldn't want an abruptly ending piece of youtube footage to be the nail in the coffin for unlimited autobahn speeds; the irony would smart.

There is one car in the video that nevers pulls in, poor lane discipline I call that

Silver, Hell_gelb,
Really pertinent points and ones which are always in the forefront of my mind. Ill try and address my thoughts on lane discipline first.
The problem with ignorant berks who just pull out on you is the randomness of it all- they may be at fault but honestly it doesnt matter who is at fault as your dead. And its this randomness which is scary. Even trying to predict their actions doesnt work..... I always have the indicator going and my lights on but honestly if they dont look then those arent going to help!
We filmed quite a bit more footage and i didnt add it because we were only going 120 or so past a load of cars......which is still damned quick but safer still
But to sum up, yes im petrified of the thought of an Opel Astra pulling out on me at 110kmh when i would have a closing speed of 200kmh on it.
Tyre blow outs- pretty damned scary too. We use Continental Sport Contact 2's which are excellent for high speed runs. However that means nothing if you hit a nail or a bit of glass.....

When you're making spirited progress, you must ensure that you use every method to show the cars in front of you that you ARE approaching fast. Being in the inside lane may lead people to misjudge your intent in the rear view mirror. btw: looks like a nice day out, Adam; just a bit boring driving straight on all the time

What you'll notice in Germany is "most" drivers pay attention to their mirrors because they need to. The problems occur when UK numpty or the Belgies & Cloggers go on holiday, beware of yellow number plates!!!!
PS: Should the need arise almost all Autobahns are actually wide enough to pass if "need be" just be prepared to use all of the available tarmac. It's much better than a shunt.
However I would refrain from massive speed differentials on dual lane sections where there is traffic, you can never be sure what might happen.

Wise words, but I assume you realised I was joking
Some nice footage there btw.
