With that mileage - 25k is good for a trade in though i think privately, 2001 models are still going for 28-29, Henrys similar cars are of a lower mileage and he is looking for around 32k ish - Dont quote me on that though, LOL. I just think pre-facelifts,especially with over 40k miles are going at mid 20s, its just a shame yours fell in the 2001 bracket just before the facelift model arrived.
I can think of 3 facelift models selling privately with under 30k miles at £33k if you want to use that as a guide.

There seem to be a fair few about anywhere between 23.5 - 30k but they are mainly from dealers and I guess offer some piece of mind and security.
So I guess advertise 27,995 accept 27,000 ish
Not sure I woild go through the hastle of a private sale for 2k though and all the risks of bankers draughts, inspections timewaster etc etc
Having said that I have just sold my 993 to a really nice guy who didn't mess me about and was a genuine enthusiast having said that and having sold this value of car before there are usually loads of timeawasters.
This is all imho and I am sure Henry will be along in a min to put me right !!!!

£27-28k sounds roughly OK for private sale. You say you'd like to start at 29 so seem to agree. Frankly I am baffled therefore why you think £25k is a bad offer on a trade in!?!?
edit to say - here's a similar dealer car (OK no GT3 kit) that would go for £30k - less than half the mileage too which makes yours a £27k car so £25k trade in is looking better and better IMVHO

I think its because i never realised the amount of depreciation in one year of ownerships, bought it last year for £34k with 45000 miles on it which was the going price at the time for cars of this spec, plus it was a cash buy so the reality is that its a real £9k drop in one year.,,,maybes im just a bit too niaive to expect more.
My previous car (bmw convertible)only dropped by half that over a similar period although it was a lot newer

Yep it stings doesn't it - I sympathise as I was hit for £15k for 2 years of Boxster ownership (would have been £12k if I had managed to find the car I wanted privately).
Did you buy from a dealer? If so you are selling and buying via dealers so getting thumped both ends.
Let's say you bought privately for £31k and sold privately for £27k - voila £4k sounds a lot better!

Golden rule of motoring - never put money into a car you aren't prepared to see disappear down the lav come change time.......
I would think twice about a Range Rover sport then Luke as the price will also collapse on that car - It seems the whole trade is a bit confusing at the moment, i recently sold a 2004 645ci Convertible for £36k which was bought new with 1 owner for £64K. 996s are falling fast though which is great for buyers but miserable for sellers who paid top dollar for them say 2 years ago, not sure if its the 997 factor or the maintenance/running costs? I am sure the guys in the trade could give a better insight.
If you do take the RR Sport option then make sure its a Diesel (No jokes about a diesel "Sport" guys) as you see 4.4 V8 X5s selling 20% less than the equivalent 3.0d's at the moment and when you consider when new there is a £20k difference in the 4.4, it is alarming, seems worse with SUVs.

I dont think prices are dropping fast..they only drop fast if you buy and sell with dealers because of the ridiculous margins..my tt has lost just over 10% in 2 years because i bought it privately..i think thats very low depreciationIf you do take the RR Sport option then make sure its a Diesel (No jokes about a diesel "Sport" guys) as you see 4.4 V8 X5s selling 20% less than the equivalent 3.0d's at the moment and when you consider when new there is a £20k difference in the 4.4, it is alarming, seems worse with SUVs.
True Kayc if you know what you are looking for and are willing to wait for the right car to pop up, i refuse to pay over 32k for a 2002 facelift with under 30k miles and wont pay over 38K for a simialr aged/milage C4s, as for a TT, i wouldnt pay over £45k for a standard 2002 420bhp model. Not sure what you paid when you did but unless you got a bargain i believe come selling time, you will be suprised how much its really worth.

I know how much its worth, its easy to get a bargain because dealers give such low bids you only have to beat that by £1-2k to be getting into a cheap car. Also condition starts becoming a factor on older cars and by my standards(extremely fussy)there are very few cars out there that i would buy because they arent good enough. To value a car just by year, mileage etc without viewing is rarely going to get you a mint example...because that car will usually be priced higher. My 01 tt is in better condition than the majority of 1-2 year old cars in my local opc, therefore i wouldnt sell it cheap. I am in no way getting at you KayC - My point is you say you dont deal with dealers so i assume your car will go on sale privately if and when you decide to sell it and in my opinion no matter the condition of your car - You will only get what a similar mileage/spec/year TT is going for.
