996 Turbo - As a Second Car
Discussion
Hi all,
I'm thinking of getting a 996 Turbo as a second car
I will be new to Porsche and all things 911
What do I need to be aware of, are there common problems, are OPC the place to buy the 911 from and if so why?
What are the typical costs if milage is around 12K per annum (excluding petrol)
Any good websites ?
Thank you

Great Car - no real problems. Just the usual really - Make sure it's been well looked after, has good history, and if possible get one with a Porsche warranty. If not, then get a 111 point check at an OPC (around £200) and put a warranty on yourself. Best not to buy from an OPC, unless you're well heeled and don't mind flushing £5-10k down the drain.....! Your main problem will probably be finding a decent one, especially if you're looking for an early car. Good luck.......
Odd.
I would have said GT3 as a second car myself (if not first).
As said by the sages. Only buy from an OPC if you have a love of funding expensive showrooms and questionable suits and lofas.
Buy private or reputable trade (if you want a little of that security) and make the deal dependant on it passing an OPC inspection and put a proper OPC or Hartec warranty on it.

You can get the same warranty as you'd get from the OPC for ~1k including the 111 point inspection required before they'll cover you.
Alternatively you could buy mine (see classifieds order by postcode NR17) and get 10 months OPC warranty *free*
No problems with the cars, they're awesome! Fast, stable, smart looking....

those of us who aspire fruitlessly to a 911 turbo as a first car would direct you to www.showoff.com or possibly www.luckybastard.com
