With an impending track day my front discs / pads days are numbered so i'm looking at fresh bits. I'm primarily road use with maybe 2 or 3 track days this year so not looking at Pagid squeelers etc.
Was wondering if anyone's used EBC Red Stuff? They're ceramic and less dust etc. but claim to be good fast road pads. They're also like the budgie - cheap!

Better than OEM?

I'd probably stick with OEM if you're only doing 2-3 trackdays a year. Perfect for the road and also the occasional trackday blat.

That's the thing Ade, these are alleged to be have better fade and general performance characteristics and be less dusty than OEM and are like half the price.

I am tempted, so was wondering if anyone had given them a go. Yellow stuff trackday pads are slightly cheaper again but will get me into squeeler territory i'd imagine.

There are standard brakes, proven and approved in all circumstances, reasonably priced. Then there are excellent aftermarket sports pads, proven on track but costly and then there are cheap pads.......in a 160 MPH+ car on track

As Dirty Harry once said "Do you feel lucky ? well do you ?"

I love my squeelers, feels like the car has an anchor out the back, use the OEM pads and get ready for fade on track, I nearly ran into the back of a couple of GT2's at Stowe on the last trackday.

If my stereo goes south i'd buy any one one for when I had enought flat 6 for one day. if the roof needed replacing i'd look at the glass screen conversion.

The bits that stop me hitting a wall? OEM all the way if you are going to drive it as Porsche intended which it soulds like you are.

I thought that EBC were recognised after market sport pad makers and that they were not some dodgy cheapo option? Are they worse than gash?

I just would'nt put them in a Porsche. Especially if I was going on track. This is only my own view, so please take it as that. If you buy them & try them and they are no good then you have not lost too much and if they turn out ok then you are quids in

Allan, I'm running EBC Red Ceramics on the front of my C4S, had them sitting around (paid £30 on eBay for them), which was good as I was down to the brass rivets on my Pagids! They don't have an initial bite like an RS29 and aren't as brutal on the discs as the RS29. Overall they're ok, will certainly do until I change the car.

Damian, you do a fair bit of track work in yours dont you? Would you rate them above the OEM pads?

I've read before that the OEMs are made by Textar which you can get off ECP for even more much cheapness - yet i'm more suspicious of them than the EBCs.

Textar is a marketing name for Pagid when sold to OEM.

I haven't tracked with the EBCs and I only once used the OEM pads so I'm not the best person to advise here. The EBCs don't bite like the OEM pad but once warm they are not too bad. They don't squeal, don't deposit lots of crap and seem to be ok on the discs.

If I was to start tracking the car this season (holding off as I might be selling her) I'd be putting Pagids back on!

Brake pads are as critical to your cars performance as the tyres. Why be cheapskate and gamble on something as fundamental as brakepads. And on a £80k 180+mph capable GT3 as well. By all means shop around for the best price, but at least get the best/proven pads for the car. It isn't a Fiesta.

Performance Braking will sell you some Pagids for a very decent price.

RS42 blues are probably better suited to fast road with a bit of track work, than the RS29 yellows which can get very squeely when used only on the road.

some pads have wings, they should make you go quicker. I'd avoid any that are red though

I'm actively considering the RS4-2s as the website indicates that they are more suited to fast road. They're similar in price and more attractive to me than OEMs.

Which is why I was asking if anyone had used these pads. I'm no cheapskate and would not compromise by buying shoite and was under the impression that EBC were a decent name in pads. I do, of course, like to shop around though.

My question was geared around finding if they were better perfomers than OEM and the lower price was an added attractant. I know that the Pagids perform well but i can't really be snottered with them squeeling away when i'm out for a long days blast and trackdays are secondary to road driving in my requirements.

Cheers Dan, didn't know they were Pagid under a pseudonym!
