Am looking to change my wifes boxster for a 911. Have a budget of low 40,000s initial enquiries appear to show that I will get a 02/03 C2 for that sort of money. What is interesting on looking at earlier threads on here everyone advocates indis or private as the best route. I am mysteriously unable to find what I would call a 'bargain' in these areas. eg there is an 02 C2 in local OPC at £39.995 a check of indies turns up same eg autobahn coventry 02 C2 £39,995. So far I cannot see a great case for not keeping within the marque. There does not seem to be a great saving in the privateers either. Tell me I am just not looking hard enough.

Obviously I`m biased being one of the independant purveyors of fine Porsches, but I think in a lot of cases the private individual who goes to the trouble of selling a car wants pretty good money for it. Sits and waits for KayC et al to tell me I`m talking bollox.

As an aside I don`t think you have to spend low £40k`s to get a decent facelift car. Look at all the 3.6 engined cars `01-51 onwards. As A guide they will start from a bit under £35k (our cheapest is £33k at the moment) going up to £40k ish. I`m not sure I`d want to spend over £40k for a "normal" 996 (ie not a C4S / Turbo / GT3 etc).

Hope that helps & good luck in your search.

911 (996 model) C2 coupe. December 2002 52-registration. 6 speed manual. Pretty much perfect. A bold statement but both inside and out you will have to look long and hard to find fault. Used very lightly thus far in it`s life a maintained by the supplying main dealer from new. GT3 alloys, PSM stability control, electric sunroof, climate controlled air conditioning, heated seats, soft ruffled leather, front and side airbag impact protection system, leather door cards, dash top and Alcantara roof lining. A stunning looking car that looks as good today as it did the day it left the showroom.

Price: £41,995

Hi, i am in the same book as i am almost ready to take a plunge so i will let you in on my "Hidden Gems", all under £40K,face lift and most are under 30k miles.

Pistonheads Classifieds
1.996 C4s - www.pistonheads.com/sales/144054.htm
2.996 c2 - www.pistonheads.com/sales/144033.htm
Autotrader
3.996 c2 - www.midlandgaragecars.co.uk/show_record.asp?id=497
4.996 Targa - http://users.autoexposure.co.uk/class
5.www.dovehousecars.com/stock/details.asp?VehicleID=253
6.www.911virgin.com/996dpe.htm

Note that there are private cars at lower prices eg.2002 C4s, 21k miles at £37500(Phone 07917) 569045 ) so happy hunting but do not pay over the odds for a facelift 911. May i also add that i do not personally know Henry (911 Virgin) BUT his prices for an Independant seem the most competitive and are in some cases lower that what some private sellers are after but at the moment he does not have what i would be looking for.

Edit - No doubt our fellow Pistonheaders will take apart some of the cars i have recommened, various reasons - colour?,targa?,aerokit? etc,etc but its just to give you an idea of what they are going for.

You might want to get your computer looked at ours says:

Millennium bug trade price £39,995.

We have an unusual, but I think very sensible and open pricing policy. Just for the record the car has done done 10,000 miles which dictates the most we can ask, the car it`s self the price up to that point and in this case it is pretty much as new.

You might want to get your eyes tested old chap, as I can definitely see £41,995

I'm only messing with you Henry, I'm sure it's worth every penny of whatever you ask for it!

Don't get your knickers in a twist, it's only a bit of fooling around.

Henry is well known enough round these parts for people to know he's an honest-kind-of-guy, and for some playful ribbing not to be to his detriment. In fact, I'm sure he'll be happy that he's received a little more advertising as a result

For what it's worth, I think the above car looks great, and would be worth a punt at the MBP.

Henry i think your pricing is extremely fair and i hope you have a very prosperous 2007 buying and selling cars for fun with no bullshit,no margin,no hidden agendasrolleyes..im a tad confused that the 02 car you have for sale is worth more than a high spec 03 black/black cab however that you recently bid 34k for because you couldnt possibly get 40k for itconfused

If you read my post I`m actually giving the chap some good advice. The fact I sell Porsches for a living means I am able to give that advice. Could I suggest more attention is given to the bad advice proffered on here which ultimately costs people money. Any advice I`ve given has been both correct and relevant.

What does concern me, and prompts me to defend my company is when people like KayC come on here and blatently lie, rendering our company`s image tarnished. I will always correct or clarify the situation in that instance. In over 3 years and nearly 1,500 posts I have not slandered, harassed, offered advice to a question which I did not know the answer or lied about anyone on this forum. I wish others could make the same claim.

Why am i lying Henry ?Im just stating what happened and i think you are very economical with the truth..by the way you havent answered my question as to how you can sell an 02 coupe for more than an 03 cab?Or was that a little porkie because you didnt manage to steal the cab 3k cheaper than the opc bid?

For those people un-aware KayC champions the private sale route and there is no harm in that. Unfortunately he keeps draging up a car we bid for (unseen). KayC has a bit of a habit of blurring reality with fiction in order to further his arguments:

The "high spec" `03 cab wasn`t, from memory particularly well optioned, certainly no sat nav etc, and again from memory had done around 30k miles. Our equally priced (at a specialist rather than private sale) car has done 10,000 miles.

Well,to counter that i have had 60 vehicles in 20 years and no major faults on any of them..i make thats saved me 60k in warranties..maybe you shouldnt thrash the shit out of your cars?

kayc said:
Fair play,i got a bit carried away with the numbers

kayc said:
Henry's not that popular with they guy he offered 34k to for his 03 cab a few weeks back that he sold privately easily for 40k a day later laugh

the person selling the car said:
After a few weeks of potential scammers, the car has eventually gone

the person selling the car said:
Sorry to say it Henry, but your mans bid was in the £34/35k region.

On a car we`d never seen & which did very well to make it`s £40k. We`d never expect a car to be perfect but if it was we`d reflect that in our offering so who knows if it really was perfect £36k might have been on the cards

Henry, why rise to it?.....you don't have to justify every car purchase on a public forum, it's not all about you.....many of us enjoy Porsche banter on here without bringing our day jobs into every post.

Agreed. I've been meaning to say for ages, 'KayC, give it a rest...it's getting tedious and predictable and quite frankly mildly embarrassing.' But I've always managed not to take the bait

I wanted to use general examples so as to add weight to my arguments. It wasn`t me who pasted specific cars, (although we do at least contribute financially by including our stock on he clasified section.

Ultimately infantile posts, mis-information and trying "take over" sections of Pistonheads will be it`s downfall.

Henry

edited to say I can not let someone lie about our company on here without saying something. I`m very proud of what I do and my company. I would agree it`s a crying shame people like KayC feel the need to post in the way they do but I am not prepared to stand by and ignore it.
