Hi,

I am just in the final stage of negotiations on a 996 Turbo with an X50 Performance Pack with my local OPC and needed some quick advice before committing.

The car is perfect and very well specced (with a price to reflect that of course!) but I quickly glanced at the trip counter and saw 9.4mpg - I have had a turbo before and happily got 20mpg out of it - does the performance pack make that much difference or is it just that the trip may have been reading a few over zelous test drives inc. mine :-)

I plan to use the car quite a bit, so don't want to be averaging below 16 or so really - is this realistic with the X50 installed??

should not make that much difference - I am sure the readin is low jus tbecause it has been thrashed within an inch of uts life by various test drive test pilots.

My Eclass says 10mpg on the trip every Sunday morning after my 2 min drive to the Gym and stop at the Newsagents for the Sunday papers. I would be very suprised if it indeed come back with such a low mpg.

could be that the trip computer has only just been reset and has over had a few hard miles since the reset.

I got 21mpg out of mine on an average. A spirited drive with s recent reset of computer would see the figure fall to about 16mpg - but when normality returned it would always go back to about late teens early twenties

The lowest I have ever got is 9.6, so check if it has been modified.

Why not drive it again, reset the counter, do a quick trip, how you will drive it, and have a look.

Thanks for your messages. I thought that must be the case.

I am not sure I am going to get the opportunity to drive again before having to put a deposit on it and the dealer has said it has had no after market mods so I think it is safe to assume it was just some over zelous driving - I must admit, I was giving it some stick on my drive.

Mine averages 18mpg. On a motorway run 26mpg at 85mph is easy. Hoons into europe normally return an average of 21mpg.

The car you're looking at may have recently had the average reset and only done a couple of cold starts and movements around the forecourt etc.

It may have been left idling on the forecourt as well.
