Time lag between warranty and inspection
Discussion
Just been on the phone to an OPC asking about the warranty inspection. He says that anything that needs sorting has to be done within 7 days of doing the inspection. I pointed out the fact that it's Easter round the corner and he said, well 7 days is 7 days.
got me thinking, has anyone been able to get an OPC to re do the inspection if the 7 days has lapsed without further charge or get the warranty after the 7 days without further inspection?
You'd think that they might want to cut some slack given that you want to part with c. £900...but instead want to charge for an inspection again
(I'm already guessing KayC's response will be not surprising followed by why bother with the warranty)
BTW have booked in for after Easter to avoid the inevitable annoyance.
Thanks

Can I ask which OPC gave you the 7 day grace?
There was a similar post on the 911UK forum a little while ago and people were getting different answers depending on which OPC they go to.
I had a check done at Leeds and they told me I have to buy the warranty there and then otherwise I would have to fork out for another inspection.
Also, why is there a price disparity between the 111-point check between OPCs? I paid £150+VAT in Leeds. In Colchecster I have just been told it is £110+VAT.

East London; chose it based on the forum comments on general levels of service. Pretty sure it's stipulated by Porsche. check T+Cs
i was quoted £282 (inc VAT) as I'm only doing the inspection. I believe you can get a lower price if you do a service at the same time. why it varies beyond that, who knows...?

I was quoted £165.00 by Cambridge OPC 2 weeks ago and that was thE inspection alone

Mine was £99 for the inspection and I had to have some oil leaks done to get the warranty.
Bull - Can you please tell me which OPC? Also what oil leaks did you have and how were they remedied? I am in a similar situation. Thanks.

thanks chaps. will be on the blower tomorrow and see what they say. I suspect likely initial answer will probably be labour rates. will let you know.
I really cannot imagine that labour rates would differ that much. Might be worth just ringing a couple more OPCs for their prices on the check to make sure.
I had mine done by Colchester before purchase. The inspection was 110 + VAT (a shade under 130 in total I recall), which they said was 1h labour charge. As it would take a while after inspection before the deal was finalised, I asked them beforehand how soon must I take out the warrantee and they said 30 days. I don't know whether it makes a difference if you already have the car and driving it in the meantime though - this was just elapsed time between the the inspection and my purchase at which time the car was sat at a (non-porsche) main dealer. In the end it was only about 10 days between getting the inspection done and concluding the purchase.
Hope that helps.

No, they were great. I'd recommend (if you're interested) to go along. After a few initial checks the engineer showed me around under the car whilst up on ramps and talked through what he saw etc. and then join him on the test drive. They were thorough, but not picky.
Fortunately mine passed with flying colours. Only problem was one of the horns (it has 2) didn't work, but they didn't need to have that fixed in order to get the warrantee. Also, the front tyres were well worn (as I knew) - they gave me a quote for replacements - but didn't insist on any work to be done.
Hope it works out well for you too.

Thanks Diesel.
So rang 2 other OPCs; one quoted c £220+VAT (2 hours' labour), the other £300+VAT (2.5hours' labour) WTF!!
perhaps it's because they can smell newbie to the Porsche game... when politely asked what's the difference, they said labour rates...
worth working them down as they all differ on number of hours needed? It's not about the money (lot less than some of the other likely expenditure on the car). more to do with standing my ground to minimise the 'trying it on' lark later.
