Bought a Beemer after a Long, Hard think!
Discussion
Hi Chaps - just traded my 986-S for a BMW Z4M Coupe.
Main reasons for the switch....
i. Ridiculously low p/x offers from OPCs against a new Boxster S - in fact I was offered more for my car but only if I bought a used one
ii. No discounts of any kind off the price of the new one
iv. Shocking finance deals and no movement possible on their side (apparently)
iii. Still no IPod/MP3 option built into the hifi (Beemer has an Aux in socket as standard)
iv. Phone options are poor - you have to spec the PCM which is £2K and then more for the phone kit...and after all that, it's not blue tooth so you have to install your SIM card into the PCM console. What a pain in the arse. (Beemer has the £400 Blue tooth option and doesnt have to have any other options in conjunction)
v. Only comes with a two year warranty
Loved my Boxster - a top car in all respects, although the Beemer is markedly faster than even the new 3.4S, never mind my old 986 3.2S. Beemer isn't in the same league handling wise...but the grunt and noise make it fun. Missing the soft top with the lovely weather we're having...didn't like the look of the Z4M Roadster! But overall, I'm smitten with it.
Farewell Porsche....for the moment! ;-)
Cheers,
J.

OK. You may actually own a Z4MC, but we thought of it first. What colour did you go for? Any chance of a few pics? As for the handling, it may not be as good as a Boxster (and whilst I have yet to drive the M, the Z4 3.0 Coupe certainly isn't), but there's a small chance it may be a bit more fun. You know.... for kids.

looks lovely. i liked them before all of you.
I already pointed that out, and implied that whereas you were before me, I was before everyone else. The one I'm thinking of will bear that out in any event, by being the coolest one ever.

Am I the only person on this forum that would'nt drive a Beemer, even if my life depended upon it? Don't get me wrong, they are supremely well engineered and executed vehicles, it's just that I associate them with a certain sort of buyer and I would rather take the required money and split it between two very different cars instead (e.g. a Jaguar and a TVR).

There are plenty of people that feel exactly the same way about Jaguars and TVRs. If you let that kind of crap get in the way of trying or owning a good car, then you can't consider yourself much of an enthusiast. Is your motoring curiosity and interest not sufficient to overcome a bit of stereotyping? Very early in my motoring I used to think Caterhams were kitcars for eejits. Then I tried one, ended up owning 4, had some ridiculous fun behind the wheel, raced and learned to drive properly. Lotus? They're for people that can't afford a Porsche, right? Tried one, ended up owning two. I just don't let the kind of stuff you're referring to enter my head when it comes to what I'd like to buy. I mean Porsches? They're just for moneyed-up tossers that work in the city, right? 4x4s? They're just for uncaring t

I used to feel like that about Porsches, until I got behind the wheel of a 911 and realised I didn't know what I was missing.
Had the pleasure of driving a Z4M and really liked it, if car had been around when I bought the Cayman S, I'd have probably bought the beemer instead of the porker, it's cheaper with more options.
Great engine btw

Lol, I got a secret liking for the slk55, had a good go in one with everything turned off on an airfield, talk about sidewides action, however, that was the limit of the fun side, to drive its was shite....
