If I wanted to change to 18" rims and tyres for my 993 C4 (not wide body), what is the accepted norm for width front and rear and what tyre profiles suit?

Dave, its normally 8s and 10s for 18s, and NOT the same rear offset as S and TT (which is 40). The owners manual lists all the variants, do you not have one? Narrow body tyres are normally 225/40 F, 265/35 R - these fit without rolling wheel arches, others may require ... and you need to be careful with non-standard sizes, both from an ABS perspective (it may not work) and an N rating perspective (which your insurance company might hiccup over).

95 and earlier cars require a rack brace to run 18s, still available TTBoMK.

HTH, cheers Maurice

I've got factory fitted 18" Turbo wheels on my narrow body C4, and the sizes are 225/40 ZR18 front and 265/35 ZR18 rear.

Steve, I think these will be Turbo clones, as genuine hollow spokes were not produced other than 40 offset for the rear - I think these might not get under the arches. What's your (wheel oriented) option number? And what type of valve is fitted?

Cheers, Maurice

Yes I think they are solid spoke. I don't recall the option code. I will have a look, as and when I remember to. The valves look fairly unremarkable to me. What should they look like?

Steve, its just a quick way to identify hollow spokes - they have a steel valve bolted in, OEM solid spokes have rubber. Hollow spokes are much lighter and command a premium.

OK, well, they are rubber which confirms they are solid spoke which is what I expected anyhow. They don't do a great deal for the ride quality. I should think the lower unsprung weight of the hollow spoke wheels would help in that regard.
