The 993tt will be cheaper to service ! The 964's, due to the placement of the engine and the fact that it represented a major change from the 911 carrerra (its predecessor) had a few hiccups that the 993 made good on. then again, if you are a wealthy so and so... this may not matter ! Good luck !

All depeneds on how often you're going to use it, also how long you're prepared to wait for the right one.. Both have their merits, personally don't think either is a proper 'everyday supercar' like the 996 was, but then again, both are far better looking and will hold their value when the 996's are long gone...

Would i take one over my tt for everyday use not a chance, the things that make the GT2 so special in the right conditions are the ones that let it down in the wrong conditions ..as slippydiff wrote(very well imo)its a very special car but it is a toy..if i had 4 cars the GT2 would be one of them..I think if you swap the tt for a gt2 there will be quite a few occassions that you will think''i think the tt would have done that better'.All imho of course.

By your own words or agreement?!?!? Not sure which, but sd states that the GT2 is a toy and you agree(very well imo). Your looking for the wrong car kayc.

Yes IIRC quite a lot fewer 964's were produced.....both are a very rare car though...have seen only one of each on the road in the last 18 months.

Ok i understand now. Your not looking for more power or more excitment but something nice to look at and enjoy the high build quality.

I dont agree that less power means less excitement.....a 3.6 965 is plenty exiting with the big single turbo power delivery...especially the S. I drove a 996 turbo S the other day and it was no where near as exiting as the 965 to drive.

taking a quick look at JZ Machtech's service menue the 964 is a little cheaper to service than the 993 but all that is inmaterial. The 3.3 turbo 2's engine was same as previous the 3.6 was different. Not aware of any hiccups.
Having driven all three types in bog standard as they left the factory form I can only comment as follows:
I like the long legged feel of the 964/965 five speed gearbox. The car feels heavy and hewn from granite. It feels like it demands respect and that if you take the p*ss it will bite your a*se. The 3.3 feels more aggresive when it comes on full boost whereas the 3.6 feel much smoother and linear. ie the 3.3 will make the wife feel sick, the 3.6 less likely to.
the 993 turbo is smoother but you always seem to be hitting the rev limiter. The car feels a lot lighter and far more chuckable.
Drive all three types and make your own mind up.

For classic 911 shape and rarity at least, a UK rhd 964 3.6 Turbo (965) would be a very nice car to own and keep long term IMO. Can't recall exactly how many came in but think it's around 50?

personal preferance would be a 993 as i think they look fab, and there is probably more chance of you finding one that fits your exacting requirements

oh and if it ever breaks down at least you have a nice rear wing to use as a tea trolley

The prices are only close if youre looking at the 3.6 Turbo II. The 3.3 version is a discount of 40% on the 993 prices, which has to be tempting.

The drive is pretty different too, big single turbo with significant lag or smoother TT with a more even pick up of power. Takes a while to learn to drive the 965, keep the revs up and its very quick and edgy, with lower revs its very ponderous and placid. Personally love the 965 I have, fun to drive and classic looks, love the "proper" porsche front wings.

The 993 is the quicker more refined car but they arent priced the same and £ for £ and for its classic looks I'd go for the earlier 3.3 (I'm looking for a 996 tt to go with mine for the best of both)

You should read this thread in Rennlist relating to a guy who has just sold his 997TT for a 3.6 965. Pretty much sums up why people go for 965 over the later cars.
