In almost direct contradiction to something I've said elsewhere on the forum today (re: keeping my 964 rather than swapping for a 993), I do find myself drawn to the fantastic widebody shape of the 993 C2S / C4S cars than seem to be holding firm at about £30k - £35k. I know b@gger all about them though, other than that they look dead good.

Any owners out there shed any light (and distract me from further FSA exam revision)? Local chaps Strasse have had a couple through recently that looked quite tempting.

Suggest you do a search - fair bit of chat about them on here in the past.

The (very) brief summary is: a C4S is a turbo without the turbo engine (ie brakes, suspension, interior from the turbo) whereas a C2S (strictly should be called a CS) is a 2-WD Carrera with a widebody, ie standard suspension and brakes (unless optioned otherwise of course).

The other good point is that few of the widebody cars seemed leave the factory without a good few options so worth checking the options list to see exactly what you're looking at in each case.

It’s a little over a year since I waved good bye to my old C2S and I still miss the old beast.

My advice would be to try and source a C4S for the reasons outlined above, Turbo without the turbos as opposed to a regular Carrera in a posh frock

Once sourced gi and attached some Fabspeed cans to the back and prepare to awake the dead as it will make one of the best sounds you’ll ever hear from an engine.

Good luck

Had a 993 C4S - really wish I hadn't sold it last year. Best looking car I've ever seen - and getting pretty close to considering trying to find another one; certainly the "browsing" has started...

I agree - the 4S is quite a lot more car for your money though in this country they do command a small premium over the 2S.

anorak mode: the 4S doesn't have turbo suspension, it has M033 same as the 2S (though may have different roll bars due to weight/4WD).

But that's irrelevant - both S's are fantastic cars and with healthy shocks and the right road are stunning to drive.

Fantastic cars lick. I've just sold my C2S after nearly 2yrs ownership. ...and now experiencing a bit of sellers remorse . There's been plenty of discussion on the forum about the merits of the various models, this link might help www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&t=206192&hw=c2s The manuals also seem to command a premium over tiptronics.

Some people are a bit sniffy about the S (whether it 4 or 2) since it's turbo bodied but standard (albeit vario-ram) engine. But I'd suggest you get all the virtues of the accesible power from the normally asperated engine in the best Porsche bodyshape there is ...ahem.. imho of course.

One thought I had mulled over but probably be sacrilige to most was getting a Ninemeister upgrade. So you'd still get 2WD (if you went for a C2S) but with a lot more go (and it'd be in a car with rear seats rather than a rollcage). However decided against in the end.

As for finding one, all the usual things apply, history, condition etc... my car was checked over by Peter Morgan on behalf of the buyers. I'd definitely consider using him for my next Porsche purchase.

You may not want the weight though.

Quite true. There's plenty of bullsh1t spouted by those who sound knowledgeable but who are merely repeating previous incorrect writings maybe because it suits their agenda. rolleyes

How do the widebody cars drive in comparison to the narrower cars? I've heard it said that the wider cars tramline quite a bit. Is this true?

They do tramline more on some roads but has not been a problem for me.

They ride quite a bit stiffer too (on standard shocks) plus 18" wheels with lower profile tyres....so a C2 on 17's feels a LOT softer.

But there's a lot u can do to make them drive better.

It comes down to the looks doesn't it - the wide bodies are SOOOOOO beautiful

But they do seem to command quite a premium for just the looks. There's a couple around for about £35k with dealers - I reckon a similar condition C4 would be about £27k. Or am I way off?

I've had a C2, C4S, TT and now have another C2. Only reason i'd sell this C2 would be to buy my C4S back... 'nuff said?

But would you have a C4 and pocket the difference?

Me personally, nope.
C2 -> C4S -> RS -> GT2

The premium is also to do with rarity on C2Ss - which also means less future depreciation, so maybe worth the initial shell-out.

I think this is it - perhaps you need to have owned an S for a while before getting them out of your system and going back to narrow body?

Not in Pete's case but for me I'd love to own a C2 again just for the purity, the lightness, the ride, the 'trackability'. Though I probably wouldn't have thought like this if I hadn't already had the 4S.

The problem is I'd be happy with the C2 until an S came by on the road, in zenith blue, the sun is just setting....I'd look at the shape and get a pang of jelousy...hmmm you can't win.

ha ha I'm sure you won't regret either way Andy - you may not have a preference over narrow or wide body for a while anyway...as your first 993 you'll be too busy enjoying the sound, the build quality, the steering, handling etc etc...
