Afternoon'

A good mate is looking to move house and can no longer afford to run his Boxster.
Its a 3.2s Tiptronic on a 03 plate. He is looking to put it up for sale at £24000 but for a quick sale he has offered me the car for £22000. I have to admit it is a superb machine and I love driving it.

I have two problems ..

1. I only took delivery of my new Passat last week
2. I dont really know what Boxsters are like to live with

I also think that I may look like a tosser driving it but I have been told that I look like the sort of person who drives a Porsche ( see profile )

Any advise on Boxsters on living with them would be greatly apprecited.

Many Thanks

Don't you worry about it. You have the perfect driver profile for a Boxster...

...I presume you are the one on the left?

not sure if the one on the left qualifies, we need more pics (of the one on the left) before we can proceed with this thread.

thanks

Boxsters are silly practical. Easy to park, eays to Cruse down M'ways and DCs. Front boot is large enought to swallow a massive amount of lugage and that's before you consider removing the spare in exchange for a can of moose and/or start playing Tetris as you pack.

The look on the local calor gas blokes face as I pull a 15kg bottle out from time to time is priceless.

Then you have the rear boot as well, but remember that it is over/behind the engine so not the place to keep Easter eggs when blatting over to see the rellies boxedin (okay so i remembered before we had set off but it didn't help.

if the weather is poor you can even get your coats on the rear shelf.

Okay so it isn't Passat practical but i can't think of another 2 seather drop top wwhich has it beat in the area save a Chim.

A Tiptronic Boxster, you say? Hmmm.. Nothing against the Boxster at all, and especially not against the S - which is a brilliant bit of kit. But an automatic? My advice?

Yep they are practical, servicing and maintenance is still very expensive (on par with the 996/997 C2). Stuff can go wrong so a car with an OPC warranty is preferable. Depending on if a car has a warranty or not, when the brakes, clutch, tyres, major service etc are next due also make a difference of up to £3000 as to what a car is worth.

Even in good shape, with warranty etc your mates car is worth around £22K in a private sale if the miles are reasonably low, its not a bargain its priced about right so dont break your neck to buy it. I would want it for a bit less TBH and personally wouldnt choose a Tip.

I picked up my first Porsche a few weeks ago (986 Box S) and absolutely love it. I traded a BMW530i against it & had similar trepidations to you. However, I am just gutted that I didn't do it years ago.

Personally, I don't really give a fig if people think I look like a tosser / chocky jockey / hairdresser / muppet etc, etc when I am in my P car. At the end of the day, I am comfortable in the knowledge that A) I fall into none of the above catagories and B) my car is a shit load better & more fun than the Mondeo / Vectra / 407 that the tw@ who is calling me owns.....

Get it drive it and blat it everywhere, forget what the weeners say on here about hairdressers and the like, wait till you take em bike like up the inside on track or off. i drive the wifes all the time, bought it as a softer option but love the way mid-engine cars handle
I would honestly say it out handles a 355 ferari, and i should know as i,ve got one of those aswell
Ours is a tip but in anniversary form with 265bhp and it suits it lavly
Enjoy ! driving

would spend an extra £2k for a manual

tips on a Boxster are somehow even more horrific than on a 911

edited to say "oh you bought it, er great choice, enjoy!"

Look & Listen ..

I'm happy with the car as I have driven it quite a few times.
I'm not a guy that keeps a car for very long and if I dont like living with the tip then it will just have to simply join the list of sold.
Say for example in a years time I could have a MANUAL 911 GT3

Just have to wait and see ..

In the mean time I would appreciate if anybody has any problems with their porker boxster, to let me know

Many Thanks Chaps beer

Had a Boxster S Tip for 14 months before getting into 911's - fantastic car.
Have a look over on www.boxa.net where loads of Boxster owners post.

I don't think there are any common problems on the later S's but they share a lot of suspension parts with the 996's, so drop links can go at 30k+ miles (not that expensive to fix)
