am currently with admiral for the 996tt. Received the renewal back at just over £700. i'm 34, no points, garged, no claims, full licence since 17 etc.

went on confused.com (which is what i used to get the insurance in the first place last year) best quote was £1400 worse £2200 and it said that admiral could not quote on my details???

anyone else had weird insurance quotes recently? have there been any major changes to insurance prices in the last year? the only thing that has changed since last year is my 5 month old son.

??

You have your 5 month old son as a named driver?

Admiral wont have quoted, as they already have, if that makes sense?

I thought paying less when I changed from a C2 to a GT2 was pretty strange. Although I'm not complaining

It is because confused.com is crap. I have got a quote from them before then gone directly to the insurers web site (admiral, elephant or whoever), entered the same details and then got a much, much cheaper quote. Waste of time using them IMO.

It's all "weird"..

Mate of mine got a quote from Norwich Union Direct (only sell on the web to be cheaper) and then a quote from Norwich Union (the non-direct one) through a broker and it was much cheaper.

Renewing my insurance last year my company told me of a 'glitch' that meant they were quoting the wrong policy on certain (group 20) cars. Once customers signed up, they would be contacted the following week saying they're cancelling the cover and providing a refund.

If I were you, I would check the cover and sign, but don't be too surprised if they come back next week and say "whoops" and use small print to refund it.

Yes agreed, I also think with companies upgrading/changing there quoting systems Confused forms are no longer compatable with them so they are unable to quote as all questions aren't answered correctly....

I was quite surprised at the range of quotes I got. 986 S, 32 years old, 10 years NCB, clean license, E1 postcode, cat1, tracker, secure garage with cctv.

Confused.com (with admiral) : £640
4insurance.co.uk : £540 (but I didn't like the terms)
Egger Lawson : £1.5k+
AON : £1k+
A Manning £1.5k+

I'm really surprised that the specialists didn't get anywhere near the mass market insurers.

confused - about 5 quoted, average £2.2k
a-plan - £1700
tesco - £1300
admiral - £820

35, 3pts, 1 claim, full ncb+protected, live in surrey, no tracker, car on road.

conclusion: trying to comprehend insurance quotes is an exercise in futility.

I had exactly the same thing from Norwich Union - went to elephant and they beat the price that I would have been paying by £200. In the end, I got 1 free month from NU and they have lost any chance of any business with me in the future!

When i was looking for the new car, I got quotes for a 996 C4S and a Turbo. The Turbo was £100 CHEAPER than the C4S!!! It must be the quicker you can get out of trouble the cheaper the insurance!?! Bit irish to me.

At £700 I'd bite their arm off!!
Sounds daft but have you checked it's for a full 12 months?
Admiral (own Elephant) often quoted me for less than a full year.
I pay £850 pa with Elephant for my 996tt - same details as yours

it's def a 12 month policy. i've got the renewal paperwork in front of me the premium is actually £662.24 but adding tax and accident cover brings it to £716.30 with 9 years protected ncb.

had a couple of call today based on my search from confused and no one could get near it best one was £1200. i was paying just under £800 last year for the porsche. perhaps it's a mistake - i will def. call them tomorrow and double check.

I am experiancing this myself at the moment. I am about to go from an e46 M3 to a 05 plate porsche boxster S. I am 23 and my insurance on the M3 was £1,826 with tescos, i called them to tell them of change of car and they said they could not insure me on this car until im 25??? yet they will insure me on a 343bhp M3? apparently this year there have been changes across the board and one of them is with young drivers age going up from 23 to 25. best quote i got was £3,400 which is ridiculous.....i tried the advert on the top of this forums page "insure ur porsche with a plan" and ive been told they could get my premium to be more like £2,000, much more acceptable, they are due to call me tomorrow, fingers crossed.

That is most unusual especially considering that a 987S/986S are in old grp 19 and the E46 M3 grp 20.

The UK Insurance LTD (Direct Line etc) E46 M3 minimum age used to be 22, but went up to 23 a year or so ago.

Out of interest, have you tried Admiral?
