Thanks mate. Very interesting. Pete Morris did well, as expected. Good old Steve was just behind him on the grid.....but DNF'd the first race, what happened Steve? However, looks like he stormed up from 19th to 6th in the second race. Good lad. Who was faster over a lap, Pete or Steve?

I watched both Open races between preparing for my own. Rupert Lewin won race 1, Paul Hogarth 2nd, Mark Stephenson third. Steve Rance had an off with Nick Staveley in a Paragon car (same as Andy Purdie's if not the same car) in the first race.
Second race was fantastic to watch. Pete Morris got from 4th on the grid to 1st out of Old Hall, followed by (I think) Paul Hogarth and Rupert Lewin. Most of the race Paul Hogarth was in the lead, Rupert Lewin close behind until he spun exiting Knickerbrook (Paul had gone down a gear from 2nd instead of up mid way through the bend, Rupert tried to seize the opportunity but didn't manage it - didn't hit anything althouh had got very close the barrier and and retired to the pits at the end of the lap). Mark Stephenson (997 GT3 Cup) had a BIG off out of Cascades although wasn't too close to anyone else at the time, and went head on into the barrier. Thankfully he mustn't have needed immediate medical attention as the race continued. Steve Rance (number 24 - I couldn't have my usual number this year 'cos he'd registered first & got it) and Nick Staveley were great to watch coming from the back of the grid through the field, the Paragon car setting fastest lasp behind Paul & Rupert and eventually catching Paul up (after Rupert's off) and putting him under pressure again. Paul held on though and took the chequered flag, but Nick Staveley was the drive of the race in my opinion. Further down the field, Tony Brown also started from the back of the grid due to not having been able to compete in race one, but eventually caught up with Ian White and they had a right old battle, great to watch them side by side on the drag to Island and also over Hill Top down to Knickerbrook. With less power and smaller tyres on his 993 RSR Ian still managed to hold him off though and they took class 2nd & 3rd from Pete Morris's first (and 3rd overall).
A great race to watch and fantastic weather made for a great race meeting. I got class wins in both the Club Championship races too, the first one quite easy, the second quite hard. Now to prepare the car for Snetterton next weekend......(details here: www.classicsportscarclub.co.uk/)

I think looking from the fact that there was a new clutch being fitted for race 2 and looking over steve's shoulder at the data log as it was being explained to him, he just buzzed the engine and the clutch went (the Parr guy said it was designed as a sacrifical part to save the engine - not quite sure how that works though....?) Sounded great when they started up on the jacks and ran it up and down the box when it was up on the jacks.
Rupert Lewin's car is exceptionally quick!
Hi Guys. Bit of an up and down weekend for me. In brief, I'd only been to Oulton once at a track day and desperately needed the Friday test session to get some circuit knowledge. Blew the clutch whilst bedding in my brake pads and lost most of the day. Got 15 laps of testing in before qualifying - Nightmare realy. Got my arse in gear in qualifying and managed P6 over all. I was pleased considering my lack of circuit knowledge and testing to get so close to Pete. Got up to third at the start of race 1 going into Old hall then missed a down change and .............. blew another clutch (AGHHHHH!) I manged to hold P5 without a clutch until lap 8 when the rear wheels locked going into Knickerbrook. I thought it wise to retire and give my team as much time as possible to complete a clutch change before race 2. Managed a good start in race 2 and drove throught the field making sure not to make any contact. Once I got to class P2 I backed off and held position as there was about 10 seconds between me and the class 1 car in P5 and Pete was too far ahead.
Pete Morris has found a lot of time since last September at oulton and will be a great adversary for this season. He is a great bloke and i look forward to some good racing with him. It was good to eithier pass or out qualify so many Class 1 cars especially the 997 Cup cars and the 996 RSR. It looks like the bar for the Open is set quite high this year. It is going to be great.

It would be FANTASTIC if this became a regular monday morning run down of fellow PHer's racing antics.... hopefully tim c AND OTHERS can be persuaded to post each week ???? I and im sure many others would love to hear 'your side of the story' from 1st to DNF.

Blimey, it seems it is all happening in the Open this year! I'm feeling homesick so maybe I should come out for a play. Shame the bar has been raised this year - Pete was too short last year to buy a drink!!!!!!!
I heard that a 997 was badly damaged - not a nice thing to happen. Hope the driver is OK, I think it was Stephenson, and his wallet is not too badly hurt.
Anyway, congratulations to all and I may see you at Snetterton. No, I'm not racing but just spectating as I am off to the A1 GP Britcar support thing at Brands the following weekend. If people are interested in a race report I will publish one or you can just check out www.chimptuneracing.com (I cant take things too seriously) to see what happens.
Cheers,
Richard.

I'd have been happy to oblige (not least because I got two wins
), but I gave a report on the Open races as those are what was requested. Sorry for saying there was an incident between them that caused Steve Rance & Nick Staveley both to DNF - it just seemed to everyone that that was the case as both cars failed to come round on the same lap.
Anyway, watch this space next Monday (unless I do crap, in which case I may not be too motivated to report
).

It was a good race Richard. The 997 Cup cars are very quick and the front end of the grid has some very quick cars. It was fantastic to see a beautifully prepped 996 RSR in class 1. If you are passing the Parr transporter at Snetterton this weekend, You are welcome to pop in for a coffee.

He always drives very well indeed. He looked very much "on the edge" exiting Cascades a few times with a few twitches and then one visit onto the infield grass, but got it back on the black stuff and still got his win. Great to watch.
You'll be pleased to know he made sure he put his overalls back fully on for the awards photos too "better had, for the boss"
