bit of advise if possible.
going to change the brake fluid on my cayman 27.
ive done about 7 track days / three sets of pads without a change so thought it best to renew fluid.
does anyone know what spec fluid is standard and what would you replace it with ?
i have dot 4 and 5.1 synthetic at work and you cant mix the two.
also on the vw's i work on, the brake fluid cant be changed unless its bled with the e.c.u set in basic setting mode via a p.c at the serial port - are porkers the same ? - have i got to go to opc/inde for repair ?
cheers

Are you sure about that. I think you can mix 4 and 5.1 It's 5.0 (DOT 5 silicone base)you need to avoid like the plague. You would need to flush the fluid properly or contaminated old fluid would reduce the efficiency of the new fluid.
yep you are correct.
5.1 and dot 4 are ok but 5.0 and dot 4 are bad. (the can says its ok - even though the 5.1 says silicone - what the #u#k am i supposed to do !)
id like to put in what came from the factory - anyone any ideas ?
i only whant to top up after bleeding so just need to know what was installed originally
cheers

Ever thought about a job as a diplomatic attache ?
You can go to your local Porsche Centre and get the exact product Porsche put in the system at the factory,
failing that you can change the fluid and fill the system with Castrol SRF.
I bled the brakes on my MK1 GT3 and that didn't require any equipment plugged into the diagnostic port, you should be able to bleed it like you would any "normal" car.
There is an easy to follow DIY on Renntech.org for the 996/Boxter series.
Helps if you have a pressure bleeder as that makes it a 1 man job.
As there are not so many Cayman diy'ers on here I guess that is why you haven't had many answers.
Most trackdayers use ATE Sooooper Blue or Castrol SRF
