Need to replace front control arms on 99 C2, changed the drop links a few months back but the car has now developed clunking noise over uneven roads and bumps.
question is for the money would it be better to leave the control arms and change all the bushes front and back, anyone done this or what do you think ???

I too would be interested in anybody's feedback on this. I reported a creaking/sometimes like a cracking noise on n/s/f to OPC on last service. They report it's the lower control arm that needs replacing.I don't believe this as it was only replaced 4000miles ago and it didn't cure the problem then.I think there's also an upper control arm. I wonder if it could be that?
I've also got a squeaking/like tinkling noise, could be both sides. Do you think new drop links would cure this?
My old man runs bikes and says you can "spray!" stuff on to stop creaks? Don't believe this.
I live in Sheffield (worst roads outside of the third world). Never hear a thing anywhere else.

Hello

If its creaking its the suspension arm with ball joint in it.
If its knocking then its the control arm to the front of car.

Alot of the time it is because the car was not set up on a level platform or any load put on the suspension before tightening up the arms....so if the arms were tightened up with the wheels hanging down when you put the car on the floor it would unsettle the bush and cause premature failure of the bush...

Kerry

What drop links have you used, replacement OEM or a custom drop link? The Nylon Ball (OEMl) has vitually no noise compared to a Spherical Bearing link ostly in custom links!

Kerry, Custom links can be pretty noisy, especially turning and placing stress on roll bar. The reason I ask this, is if they are custom they will more than likely be adjustable and they may not be at the correct length etc (also even length) the front roll bars have minimal clearance from control arm and if they aint the correct adjustment this could be causing the noise.

But must say it might not be this!

Hi kerry

As far as im aware you cant get bushes ...

If it is the front arm knocking it will be the front control arms they have a rose joint and it knocks in the aluminium arm....

As for custom drop links ....never seen this on any porsche seen it on ferrari but never a porsche..so would think this would not be the case.
