had enough of indy dealers!!
Discussion
im fed up with dealers not taking me seriously on the phone, never returning calls, not describing cars properly, advertising them as a year newer than they are, looking top money for cars but my trade in's are always not wanted except for silly bids!
my advice is to fine one dealer you trust and only buy there....for me its joel at rsj, always honest with no sales crap, takes me seriously and doesnt tell me to go sell mine privately and come back! i'll be buying a turbo off him in the next few weeks as i did last year.
sorry for the rant, just get fed up sometimes....maybe if i ran a dealership with all the stresses that come with it i wouldnt do a great job either!

I've come to the same conclusion as you Simon , seems to me that RSJ has a very good attitude when it comes to buying and selling ... I reckon he'll be my next port of call also .. (whenever that'll be)..
When I was buying my 996 I was fed a load of BS and was naive enough to believe it .. Now that I know a little bit more , I won't be going back there again .. Their loss not mine.

I've never met him or spoken to him, but fair play to Joel at RSJ, who seems to be keeping a lot of people here happy - notwithstanding the little scandal last year, where I'd sort of be inclined to cut him a little bit of slack given that the customer in question seemed perhaps a smidgin over-ready to get litigious. I said seemed, so if the guy in question reads this, apologies in advance, terms and conditions, caveats and so on etc.
I recently bought my 996TT from RSJ.
Joel, Damien and Andy were all extremely helpful, knowledgeable and are each is genuinely interested in ensuring I have a car I am happy with. Joel took my 993 C4 in p/ex even though it is no longer their core stock. Of course I would have loved more money
but the complete deal on the 996 was so good, the p/x 'loss' was balanced out completely by the competitive purchase price of the TT.
I also have a lot of time for Ray Northway. He knows Porsche inside out.
Rgds, Brin

Having met Joel , I think that he's head and shoulders above similar dealers simply because he started small , worked his nuts off , and keeps this upper most in his mind.
Damien's a real good guy , but I would say that cos he's Irish .. Not to mention that he responds well to insults .. The auld ballix!!
if you're reading this Damien , I apologise .. And owe you a pint!!

Was just about starting to think of it as my 996TT before you bought it from Joel! I agree hes a good guy to deal with as is Ray even though they couldnt be more different.

Perhaps we could get a sticky thread with recommended indies, for new comers to refer to.
I personally use www.kennydunn.co.uk in Edinburgh, he is fair, honest & knowledgable, I would also use RSJ & 911virgin just from what I have read here.
I have also been there to check out the place.
Its a very professional setup.
20 car showroom,absolutely immaculate.
Nice guys Joel & Damien.
No salesman bullshit,just honest information.
They are currently looking for a black manual turbo for me to swop for my 4S.
Having seen the standard of the 20 cars in stock, i would be buying it over the phone without viewing it subject to an OPC 111 point check and warranty which they heavily promote and virtually enforce.

Think Joels looking for Turbo's for every one, luckily I dont do black
I'll add my voice of support to Joel. I bought my tt from him and everything went extremely well. We agreed a few bits and piecess beforehand which weren't in writing so I was a little worried when I collected that they wouldn't be done and we'd have the usual dealer denials. But they were all done. Nice bloke -- and I still stay in touch now.
In fact I've just bought a GT2 from an OPC and was very disappointed at the way they dealt with a particular issue I was having with the PCCBs

I was treated with complete contempt by nearly all the indy dealers I dealt with in 2005/2006. In the end it's what complelled me to (a)got to an OPC (b)buy new.
I really don't understand why they don't act in a more professional manner. After all we're not talking about £5K cars here. I'm sure there are some decent ones out there but I couldnt find one who was prepared to treat me like a human being, let alone a customer.

Sold 2 cars to Joel and done one SOR. He's been good each time with consistently highest bid and fuss free payment and always returned email and calls. You better not get big headed though Joel
Keep those prices cometitve, bids strong and the flexibility to a max (ie staying on late, able to contact by mobile etc)
As someone rightly said..he's worked hard. Remember when I dealt with him in 2000, he had a website and worked from home. The new place premises look good. What's even better is that he's got a good mechanic in Andy who recently solved a small issue with my Ferrari 360 (I love saying that!)

Dealers generally tell people to sell their own car if
A: Dealer doesnt want it
B: Dealer does want it but can buy the same car cheaper in the trade........ie customer wants too much
Or in your case if they are not the right ethnicity for you...do hope to come across you someday (cant wait for the privilege)

I think the stereotypes that exist in the motor trade tend to be due to sales training recieved that instills them to "qualify" customers by looking at their watches and shoes. Some salesmen extend this to the ethnicity. Check a previous thread my poorcardealer-the most bigoted drivel I ever read (and I'm living proof of how wrong his attitude is-as he'd frog march me out of his showroom on the basis of his selection process- and perhaps off this beautiful Isle if he could).

quotes from POORCARDEALER- MAKE UP YOUR OWN MINDS
"There are lots of times when a customer crawls all over the car ou are selling moaning and groaning when a six year old car has an odd stonechip...........then they want to to p/ex .......you go have a look and its a wreck that had loads of paint usually in a crap colour and you just know they bought it cheaply............politely tell customer you dont want it in p/ex as its not up to our standards...........that usually sees them heading for the door looking crestfallen!"
"Its nothing to do with been racist BUT..........I have had Asians ask to look at logbooks of cars, if there is an asian name in the logbook they wont buy it..........tell me why............secondly my premises are in an asian area, we have been there 14 years, we have sold car to fewer than 20 over those years.we do not stock cars that do not appeal to them, as to be frank they are too much aggro to deal with and generally take the piss...........I realise the above is a harsh attitude to take but it has saved me time and trouble, it might have cost me the odd deal, but I doubt it, as time spent wasted with them could have been spent with a real buyer."
