Morning peeps
I did think about changing my login before popping into the Porsche forum in case anyone spotted me
Anyhoo, after a little advice please.....
My cousin has decided he wants to buy a weekend car. He doesnt want a convertable and TBH he isnt that worried about outright speed (drives a BMW 7 series diesel!) and intends to keep the car for a number of years. Despite owning a haulage firm he isnt what Id call a petrolhead.
So, he tells me he wants to buy a Cayman. I told him, obviously, to get the 'S' but he isnt really that fussed and is leaning towards a brand new 'cooking' Cayman (told him to get a used 911 but he isnt listening).
So, the advice Im after is;
Is the regular Cayman as good as the 'S' just a bit slower?
With the brief look at prices/residules, Im assuming he wont get too much of a kick in the boolarks if he buys new? (trying to convince him to buy an ex demo or slightly used, but he says he wants new)
What options are a must have?
What options are nice but not essential?
Any other advice/suggestions appreciated

Get back to the dark side you nasty interloper
Suggest you get the man in question to drive both. There are many differences between the 'S' and base model, particularly in power/performance. If you look on the Porsche site you will be able to "build your own car" which will show differences in basic spec, power output etc. I remember the base model has a 5 speed box instead of the 6 speed in the 'S' model for example. I also suggest he drives cars with and without PASM and Sports Chrono packs as these do really add to the driving experience if you want to "push on" in the car.
If you can get over to Tonbridge OPC they have both as demo cars plus a few on their used site that they would almost certainly let you drive/assess. I was there today and they do have a 'S' model in the showroom they can't shift....it has 997 turbo wheels, a few tricks on the inside but, and here's the catch, it's bright orange
I was told informally they were looking to make it a loan car soon so may take an offer on it if it appeals to anyone.
Have fun looking
