I have an 04 986 and can't find the setscrew or alan/grub screw to remove the gear knob.

Has anyone done this and can shed some light on it??

You'll need to detach the leather gaitor from the centre console. It clicks in/out though it will feel like you are breaking it!!

Next, pull the gaitor over the knob like you are trying to pull it inside out. There is a bolt head (allan key I think) under there.

Tried that, not sure I am pulling (really starting to sound like someone out of VIZ now) it hard/far enough.

It seems like I need to remove the silver oval shaped gear icon thingy, but it doesn't seem to want to come off (without breaking, that is).

Thanks for the advice though.

Mods surely this thread is more better placed in the over 18's section of the P&P

Evo my man you are a gentleman and a scholar sir. I am putting my recalitrance to pulling willy-nilly on my constant advice to my wife "easy does it girl, brute force has its place but not when removing my knob"

Thanks muchly. Haven't tried it yet (whilst the engine is running), but it does feel much more direct and definitely adds a bit of weight to the change action.

I reckon I will leave the centre console and electrics off until I have tried it on the road. The destructions reckon you should leave a little bit of fore and aft adjustment to allow for heat expansion, so I want to get everything up to temp before finally committing to fitting it fully.

Did you refit the green floor bracket, did you even have one? Also found £3 and 2p under the change gubbins, result or what!

Thanks again,

Steve.
