What Is The Current View On Resale Colours?
Discussion
Gents,
I am looking to buy an early 996. I have owned a succession of Silver cars, which have I have never had any trouble selling, but I really would like something different for the 996 without getting stuck with it….
What is everyone's current opinion on the best and worst resale exterior and interior colours?
Many thanks.

The only place grey belongs is a Burtons slip-on-shoe with white socks and stay press flannels when attending an 80's revival night.
Thankfully the "classic grey" option is ticked less often than it's 993 zenith...Yes, I was lumbered with "classic grey" when had a 993. Not again thanks.

FWIW IMHO : Anything dark is safe, as is silver outside (but can be nasty if they ticked all the alu-look interior options too).
I would avoid red or savanah interiors even though I think they can look okay as they are just a bit too marmite. Louder colours better on lowered aerokitted cars (RS, GTx, turbo and look-alikes) than vanilla C4s and the like.
If yellow, Speed is much better than the pale custard colour that you see from time to time. Rubystone, duck egg blue and pale green (whatever the Porsche names for those are) : it had better be an RS (964/993 RSs look great in any colour and seem wholy immune to any resale effect of an unconventional choice) - so not on a 996.

My intention is to have a car with the full Aerokit. Having had a 968CS in Speed Yellow, I would love to have a 996 in the same. Are these worth less than their black or Silver counterparts? I have heard that the trade shy away from Yellow, too.
To some extent, I want to buy the colour that I want. That said, I haven't got money to flush down the toilet...

Yes, I would imagine speed yellow is a difficult colour to sell, but look at it this way, because you want an 'unlove' (for want of a better word) colour, you have more power as a buyer, so that should negate any losses come sale time.
IIRC the indy near birmingham had a speed yellow GT3 kitted C2 for sale last year, have a look in the classifieds and see if its still there.
Red must be hard to shift because this one's been advertised since about November 2006 and, apart from a highish milage, doesn't seem bad spec / price www.pistonheads.com/sales/100210.htm
Being serious, I was chatting to a specialist last week, Black and Black will get a £1k premuim throughout the buying cycle, even over a silver and black car.
Depends if a less popular colour floats your boat and or budget. Dont care what anyone says, 996 is a spec sensitive car, both in value and speed of sale. As an example he is finding it hard to shift a C4S with X51 just because its Lapis blue with blue interior, hell as a petrolhead I'd be tempted were it not for the rash purchase that is in the offing

Couldnt agree more. The grey hide is a real barrier to getting a decent 993 IMHO!! You can almost get away with it on a black car but why anybody decided to combine it with Zenith blue 996s and Boxsters is beyond me.

Real shame the speed yellow/guards red trade at such a discount - think they look althogether more sporty. Thankfully the GT3 guys are embracing some of the more luirid colours....

I recently sold my red 997s to an OPC and got no less than I would have done for a black/silver/blue one.

Hmmmm - interesting - IMHO Red seem to 'work' on a 997 in a way that it doesn't on a 996....
or is it just me?
