I am a potential buyer of a 968 CS...
The only thing is it is red, everything else on the car checks out...In an ideal world I would buy a speed yellow or riviera blue M030 example without a sunroof.

Now I am confident I know enough about the model to work out if it is a Donkey or not,,but the colour?
Porsches don't seem to work well in red or white for re sale....But on RS models this matters less...This is a CS not quite there but on a sportyish Porker is red ok????

Biased reply 'cos my CS is red - They look great !
I think many of the later CS's were different colours because so many of the earlier cars were speed yellow and maritime blue that buyers wanted theirs to look different. Mine came with a subtle silver wheels/no decals spec that to me didn't look enough like a CS, but now it has colour coded wheels and decals it looks just as lairy as the yellow and blue ones. Popular 964 and 993 RS colour so has good sporting credentials. Also Porsche GB's '94 press CS (L968 POR) was red which may have persuaded a few people.
If the one you are looking at is 'subtle spec' let me know and I'll e-mail you a picture of mine.

I had a red one with the red wheels a few years ago and I think it looked fantastic....Is it an M030 or a standard model?
Great car!

i reckon 968's look pretty good in red, but then im not a big fan of riviera blue (sorry), also have a strange liking for white CS's with white wheels...

clubsport have you seen the black M030 CS on autotrader for 16.5k?
typically its exactly the same age/mileage as my Sport but has full M030 for only 2k more than i paid

Hmmm, time for devils advocate

Why would a buyer of a 968 Clubsport be worried about the colour? Those cars are for driving, hard and fast on a track, not for polishing or worrying about a resale value.

I wouldn't worry about colour. I would look for the proof that previous owners have lavished mechanical care and attention to it. Once you're inside the car you can hardly see the colour

Henry at 911virgin.com has a rather tasty looking left hook 968 CS - it is black and probably not M030 but seemingly good value at £11.5K.

Always worry about resale value.

Personally, as a complete tart, I wouldn't have bought a red, black or white one. Gotta be blue or yellow for me. I think colour is quite important on a car of sporty character. Mint green 964 RS ?, yes please !

Personally, I wouldn't buy from Henry even if it was 12k cheaper You may need to search these forums to see what people have had to say about Henry in the past. His character has ensured a love him/hate him following. I won't reveal which camp I'm in

You can get LHD CSs even cheaper than Henry with a bit of luck, but that Mo30 option is indeed a rarity and worth forfeiting your favourite colour for.

I'm fully aware of the range of views on Mr Firman. I have no particular love for him or his establishment. I was pretty arrogantly given the uninterested blow-off by his brother when I went to see them about upgrading my '89 3.2 Coupe for a 993. I left with a pretty low opinion of the way they go about things, but you can't deny they shift a lot of motors and that particular 968 seems to be a reasonable price (with the obvious caveat of not having seen it !)

The '911virgin' car looks like a comfort and electrics pack car - No Recaro's or RS steering wheel, and with all the electric gizmo's. Really a Sport with no back seats (Sport model wasn't available in Germany), so neither one thing nor the other for us in the UK. Very late one mind you - First 'N' reg I've seen.

Fair do's Jamie.

His brother Tom is much more of a berkeley hunt, as you rightly identify.

Cheers

Thanks for the responses guys,,,it seems that as expected the way to go is buy a decent car and not to be too concerned about the colour.
I didn't get too many forget it walk away shouts...so Hopefully I can work something out with the vendor.

GR4 it is subtle spec as in red with silver wheels...possibly the most boring CS ever with no s/roof,stereo or anything...which should make it lightish......Give it a few months before I go leary.

A friend of mine is a serious driver (all tracks and several races in France, Nurburgring, several UK tracks etc), and rates the 968 club sport as one of his favourite cars.

If red means harder or lower resale, then there is one easy answer - offer less to pay for it.

Agreed, colour can and does affect price. Good luck CS, keep us posted. Make sure you put the decals on it !

Go for the decals, it'll make up for it being boring old red

Nobody ever accused me of having good taste

I have to remind you that Herman wants more decals on his car than Schumacher's F1 car!!

C'mon mate, when's thehuge CFC sticker going to get plastered down the side - That'll fcuk your resale value if anything will!!
