Hi everyone. I've been visiting for a while but now it's time to join and say hello. Thanks to all who have posted advice, it's all been very helpful and I hope I've escaped too many perils in buying the car. It's a year 2000 C4 in Vesuvius Grey with just over 40k miles. Bought from an indie in Surrey two months ago and I love it! I had an earlier 911 (1984 car 15 years ago) and a 928 S4 a few years back and it's great to be back. I just hope the 996 will be a bit more reliable than the 928 which was shocking. Yes I've read all the doom about the 3.4 so fingers crossed.

I'd be very grateful for advice now on the paint. It seems to scratch just by looking at it. I've read all the threads about cleaning and polishing so all I'd like to know is what to put on for the best scratch protection. I'm not thinking of the films as I want to put it all over the car. It seems that Meguiars and Zymol are popular for shine but will they stop the easy scratching?

Thanks, off to enjoy the sun in a dirty car now!

Welcome ... can't help with the paint, but welcome!

Hoep you get some sound advice. I thought that Porsche paint was meant to be pretty good - mine is ancient, and therefore a bad one to choose as an example, but I am always surprised by how well the paint has lasted.

I had a permagard treatment back in December. I've been very happy with the results.
Not as "showroom" as a Zymol but it's so simple to keep clean and you can get it looking really good with very little effort. Plus if you take the car to them, it's very good value. Contact the manager in East London - mike@permagard.info The picture on my profile is post permagard.

Hello Orange and welcome (Back) to the fray.

This may be tempting fate but my 2001 C4 bought 14 months ago has been absolutely faultless. Not used a drop of oil and has just had the 48k service with no problems whatsoever.

Get a sports exhaust (unless it is your daily driver in which case it will get on your nerves)) BMC air filter, Pagid blue pads, sticky tyres and you'll also have a useful track tool :-)
