Have just come out of a Tuscan 2S convertiblecry, I loved it but I have to move on. Am now looking to get something nice, fast but useable so am looking at Porsches and have a few questions for you.

I love the look of the 997 but didn't want to spend that much at the moment. I will be having a test drive of a 996 3.6 Tip coupe today which does look very nice but, at the back of my mind I keep thinking "Should I go for a 997, will I regret buying a 996 when I see a 997 go by". Silly I know but I can't get the thought out of my head.

Next. I like the idea of the Tip but do not have a problem with manuals, is a Tiptronic really worth waiting for or does it not matter?

Any thoughts, advice, questions I should be asking will be much appreciated.

There's a lot of info related to your queries on this forum if you do a few searches.

Personally if you can stretch to a 997 that would be my advice, I think it's nicer all round than the 996, although the 996 is still a great car.
I'd look at the 'basic' 997C2 which for all intents and purposes is a very fast car, the 'S' version is slightly faster with extra spec, but of course more expensive.

Tiptronic is just another word for automatic, not a popular word around here but I guess if it's mostly for everyday use in traffic etc it may be fine.
It all depends what you really want the car for, there's plenty of different models, and should be one that fits your needs - and hopefully wallet - pretty well.

Before I forget an OPC (Official Porsche Centre) warranty is highly recommeneded, and not bad value for money.

I'm not sure anyone would need a tip in the 997S

It's possible to put the car in 3rd gear from 10mph and go to 90mph without changing gear.

Thirds the only gear you'd need in traffic most of the time

You'll be lucky to do 10mph in london in traffic.
