i dont think youve much to worry about: nobody in their right mind would spend 14.5k on anything that was advertised via txt msg.
Aren't traders supposed to disclose their status and pay for their ads? Doesn't look like this joker has.
If you're feeling sufficiently strong about it, you could send a link to the Admin team - they may pull it if the seller is a trader trying to circumvent the site's selling rules

On the off-chance, that wouldn't be the car that is discussed in the following thread would it?

It certainly would! - To be honest I don't really care though - The insurance company settled with me and I'm more than happy with what I got from them. I just don't want to see anyone from here (or anywhere else for that matter) getting Shafted.
Chris
It's been listed on ebay as well...knew I recognised that number plate!

The company in question are renowned for being economical with the truth I'm afraid. I have heard some horror stories about them that make this seem almost trivial!
However I have used them for parts and they are very good if a bit on the expensive side.
Cheers,
Bryn.

Well they've been banned from ebay at least 10 times now using different user IDs. I see they have yet another new one though.
If you go in person and inspect the cars they are fine with that, but I would never ever buy anything unseen from them. Having said that I wouldn't buy anything from them full stop!
Cheers,
Bryn.

Did the insurance company write it off? They've published the full hpi report which shows clear on the plates....
Well put it like this - The insurance company deemed it 'beyond economic repair' and paid me in full for the car - whether or not they have actually written it off I don't know. I was happy to take the money - which incidentally was more than fair - so that I can replace the car rather than keep this one which now has a 'dubious' history.
I've made enquiries with the insurer because I'm not happy about having my personal plate (which incidentally was put on retention after the addicent and a new number allocated whilst the car was technically still my property) splashed all over the bleedin' internet!
I'll let you know what I find out about the status of the car as far as being written off is concerned. 'No structural damage' my arse.
Chris
Bit of a grey area for me this....
My insurer might have elected to pay me out in full for the car, but surely that doesn't necessarily mean that the car is a write off i.e. too badly damaged to be repaired? - I'm sure that whoever picks up my car for 14 grand or so could elect to spend ten and have it virtually rebuilt back to 'good as new' condition by an OPC bodyshop.
Surely it's up to the insurer whether or not they elect to pay for repairs, or simply settle the claim in full and recoup some of the money by selling the car as salvage isn't it?
(Although I have to say that given the chassis damage on this car there's a chance of somebody buying the car without having the right inspections done and driving around in a potentially dangerous motor).
Are insurers legally required to register the car as 'written off' if they elect to pay out in full?
