Not wishing to start a '996 versus 993' debate, but as my 993 is just about to turn 100,000 miles just wondered how many 996 owners are running 100,000+ mile cars and what their experience is ?

Theres a fair number of Boxsters on ppbb.com running over 100,000 miles although they do tend to change their oil more frequently that recommended over there.... I personally know of one 1996 (one of the first couple of hundred produced) that is still running sweetly at approx 90,000 miles and half of that was added in the last 3 years!

993 just pips it to the post on the 0-100 time ...

(and when I get bored I can just swap the engines over ...)

Depends what the criteria are....

If it's maint bills going forward I'd say that this is governed by the maint bills up to now.....

A 993 with nothing but oil changes done for the last 5 years will be a money pit, whilst a 996 with a fat wad of invoices will tick along at 1K a year for the next five years....

At this stage you'd expect the motor to be a bit tired and would benefit from an engine rebuild in either - would you pay 5K to rebuld a 996 engine or a 993.....

My view is that it depends on your beard length...

Bought and sold a few at 100k a few years ago - all ran fine, no real difference to a 40k car - as you should expect. No complaints or stories of them going wrong afterwards either. There was one guy who was showing his mate how good it was and spun it into a tree/wall/lamp-post/other immovable object. I was saddened to hear he wrote it off, but somehow I managed to over-come my sorrow when he called to tell me about, as he wanted a replacement ASAP Be nice if every customer bought another car after only 9 weeks............
