Boxster 2.7 Buying Advice
Discussion
Hi
Depends what you are paying. I think just over 20k gets you into a facelifted 2.7 with the all important glass rear window, so you dont need to chop the plastic window half way through lowering the hood, which gets real annoying.
Personally I would only ever have one with an OPC warranty to protect you from the very slight possibility of an engine going bang - but if it does you're looking at 10k

Other things to look out for include worn drop links (rattling sound from the front at low speeds over rougher roads), the bolts corrode on exhaust heat shields which can leave the shields rattling at certain revs (cheap fix). Definitely want a full history, though with a 99-'00 vintage some people actually prefer specialists than OPC's.
They are super cars, dont deserve the hairdresser image, and the 2.7 is fast enough for most, most of the time I reckon.

I had a 2000 (2001 model) 2.7 Boxster. I'd also recommend going for the facelifted car with the glass screen - you also get a glove box, cup holders, improved trip computer and a few other things. The plastic screen was the single most annoying thing with the car, every time you put the roof down you have get out and make sure it folds correctly or risk damaging it - they also get dirty very quickly.
A warranty is also essential in my opinion. As are: wind deflector, sound pack and heated seats.
Look for a good history and overall condition, if you've got the warranty you don't have to worry about the potential engine problems. There are loads of them about so don't buy the first one you test drive.
