Tiptronic TT's
Discussion
Been looking for a 996TT for a while and had convinced myself it had to be manual. Having though about it I've now changed my mind completely and am looking for a Tip. Thinking is that the car has more than enough power to handle the TIP box (unlike my old 968 tip which handled lovely but was so sloooww), that it would make life in and around town or up and down on the M25 much more relaxed and that my Turbo II is manual anyway and gives me an alternative when I fancy some spirited work with the gear lever. So where are the good TIPS at the mo ?
Getting a bikini wax - Summer's here and there are sailors in town.
Hoges11 - say it ain't so. I'll spare everyone my usual Tip monologue, but *tchaa*... I mean.... *rolls eyes and takes breath*... I mean...seriously... have you tried a 996TT Tip back to back with a manual? The Tip is piss poor in comparison. It's just aaawwwwfuulll. Like a little party-pooper sitting in the centre console wearing a silly hat, telling jokes you're heard a thousand times before, eating all the nuts and playing grab-ass with all the people you don't want to go home early. Tiptronic and Twin Turbo - it's like a Vodka Martini. It sounds like a great idea, but tastes like aardvark piss.

And yes, henry-f - I've driven both, and no, I don't own either. And no - I haven't tried aardvark piss, but I'm taking an educated guess.

Maybe Im reading something into nothing Loach old man but I think that maybe somewhere in your subconsious you arent fully convinced about the merits of tiptronics
Horses for courses, the TT will be my everyday car and will be plenty quick enough for that purpose, its less exciting after the Turbo II anyway even if its much more accomplished.
Bikini wax bloody hurt, hello sailor

I'm one of the poor unfortunates here that has a C4 Tip, and I'm the first to slate it for being a complete pile of steaming shite.
However, I have to confess, it felt much better on a TT. With all that extra torque, it kind of suited the nature of the car.
(I can't believe I'm saying this
)
Also, if you spend a lot of time in town and on the 25 then that is a criteria.
Plus, you'll get one dirt cheap as every one wnats a manual (in black).

Im on a winner then as I really dont want black (or silver)
A mere bagatelle when whatever colour you go for, a child somewhere will cry and an angel will lose its wings when you buy it as a Tip.
Nah the tip was designed for a car with 420bhp, the children and angels only kick off when you put a tip on something that lacks power
, put a tip on a turbo and all is well in heaven and earth.
Which planet you on at the mo Loachy ? Edited by hoges11 on Saturday 5th May 17:51

Which planet you on at the mo Loachy ? I'm on one where evolution saw to it that I got the legs and arms necessary to push a pedal, grasp a lever and move it about a bit. Whatever the planet's called, though, ther sure are a lot of dead kittens around.

If you want a tip, buy one, look back at some of my previous posts and you will find honest answers.
Agreed, it's not the greatest auto, but if you use it to it's max capabilties it will hold it's own, I track it also!
Take Loach with a pinch of salt, he might have had 1 or 2 decent cars in the past, but his current selection have something to be desired, lol

I have had my 996 Tip TT for about 4 weeks now and find it great. Especially in stop start traffic. As others have posted it holds its own when pushed. I prefer to plant both hands on the steering wheel while the tip launches me through hyper speeds. I know it may not sound as fun as manually changing the gears yourself, but I don’t think you change them any quickly your self anyway.
I went for a Tip for 2 reasons, 1) I have always been use to an auto, and secondly I thought it would my life a little more bearable in stop and start traffic.
I am sure you will find it just great. Test drive both and see for yourself which one you feel comfortable with.

Seems like theres a lot who just dont fancy the Tips (100,000 lemmings can't be wrong) but Im with JB12 ,Stevo and fbrs's mum in seeing the advantages. Just hope all you nay sayers mean I get a discount on the manual price. So back to my original question, anyone seen any good TT tips around ? preferably not in black (looks lovely tho)or silver
