For the last week I have been rippin' my hair out (ever since leaving the race track)
I was getting this drone and suspected a wheel bearing was on it's way out (commomn fault). I handed it in to Porsche for yearly service, oil change (book stamped) and at same time asked if they could check noise out, they agreed there was a drone after driving it, after returning her to the ramp the ruled out wheel bearing and mentioned it could be transmission related, I WAS SERIOUSLY SHOCKED!
They said they wanted the car in again to do a transmission/diff oil change just to check for any shavings etc, (due in this Wednesday) I said fine as I wanted to change fluids anyway (best if your tracking more anyway)
I spoke to a few good Tech guys that I know and one had mentioned what Tyres were on the car, I told them the Toyo's were still on from the track and they insisted try changing the wheels back over (I have a set for track the Toyo's and for road use Conti's) Well done this today and the drone was completely gone.
I noticed today there were a couple of posts regarding drone from the Toyo's and I can confirm it gets pretty bad sometimes especially at speeds around 50 to 70mph. It's just a warning to others that might think they have some other issue going on with their cars. I have had tyre noise before from different makes but these Toyo's are really bad. Saying that they are amazing on track (so sticky) and I would still buy hands down for track use.

Dave, the Toyo's are seriously good, I don't want to put anyone of buying them. I don't think everyone is having the same issue (a few are, search through posts) It might be down to certain car set up, I don't know!
It was really to make ppl aware if they start hearing any drone noise, it's most probably your tyres!
I'm going to put them back on for track days, and it would not stop me buying them again.

I have exactly the same problem with R888s on my 964. It sounds just like a wheel or tyre is rubbing somewhere. My indy spent a while trying to find a problem and I tried spacers. No problem with another set of identical wheels but different tyres, so concluded that it's just that the R888s are noisy on the road. I am running a bit of negative camber, but these tyres are so good on the track that I'll put up with the noise.

Ditto Ian, the noise was so like a bearing on the way out, i'm sure if others don't know about this and they get similar problems it would drive them crazy.
That's interesting news, I was going to fit the 888's on the Turbo, but my tyre guy reckons another 3 weeks before the sizes I need are in. So I went for P zero rosso's instead as I can't wait. Off to France and Italy next Sunday and from the sounds of it thank god he did not have the 888's in stock. Anyone got any views on the rosso's ?, it won't be used for trackdays.

Just aswell, because I thought the rossos were bollox.
Toyos are far far better on track and on the road (dry ones)...but as said, tehy whine badly.

Cool Stevo.. Are they worn evenly?? i.e do you have more camber than standard??
Yip just about spot on, with front neg camber at -1.0 and rear at -1.7, I might go a tad more on the front, but it's not far away at that!
I'd try 2.5 front and 2.0 rear....But im am souped rite now...........
they are really great track tyres. I prefer them over Michelin Cups, but I would hate it to do lots of motorway journeys with them because the noise of the tyres is like that of a Land Rover on the motorway. The noise is my only complaint about the Toyo R888. There is no possibility though to mistake the noise for wheel bearing noise, because the Toy's rumble equally in a straight line and in corners to the left or right.

I agree, I was going to do fronts only as said earlier, possibly -1.5 to -2.0, the rears are fine at -1.7 as these tyres are nice and sticky, want to take it up in stages, so probably try -1.5 first just to see how it feels

lol, that's why Porsche thought my transmission was on the way out, lol
Can't wait till I speak to them Tuesday, this will be fun!

Sorry if i'm telling you to suck eggs here, but don't get carried away running too much negative camber with the Toyo's. They are a cracking tyre but have much stiffer side walls than say the MPSC's so its very easy to prematurely shag the inside edge particularly on the LHS rear, so check it regularly.

No not at all, That's cool! was checking the wear anyway and it was pretty good! just maybe a tad more neg on front and see how that goes! It's really down to personal preference

Well given you don't intend to use it for trackdays the R888s would have been a mistake imho. No clue on the road tyres but I think fate has helped you out here!
