Was at Bedford yesterday and came across the new section of tarmac. initial impressions was to ignore it and carry on the original route but after pulling the cones out from under the car, thought i would give it a go.

I was with Alan (Aceparts) and Ken (996 GT3RS, 997 GT3RS, 993TT and 997 TT)
and we were struggling with the flow and how to get around the corners. The left hander with lots of bumps had my car bouncing like a touring car.

whats the concensus?

Bumped into a few new faces, Black 996 turbo and black 997GT3 - didn't get names or handles so just saying "hi"

Not a fan of it at all when bolted onto the GT circuit. Just adds a couple of tedious high speed braking zones to shag peoples road cars and the final hairpin is so tight you almost have to get the tail out to make the corner. Hopefully they won't always run it on GT days.

Apparently its a great addition to the West circuit, but they run it the other way then.

I liked it - but then it was my first track day, nothing to compare against.

How was the day - Aceparts keep up with the GT's?

Aceparts was driving the 993 like you would not believe, it was sliding round the corners and looked superb. I was following in a GT3 RS and the 993 more than held it's own, it was pulling away on the straights but I was able to make up the time in the corners.

The 993t is not an easy car to drive on the track so full marks to Alan for keeping up with a GT2 & GT3.

I did not like the extra part of the track, it takes away what was a very good corner and just adds two straights and two hair pins. More strain on the car for very little gain.

I thought MSV ran the day very poorly, it took ages to get on the track, they stopped for luch which made a massive queue for food and only had one guy on the petrol pumps which again meant a large queue. I felt that I spent the whole day in a queue. There was just too many people there.

Standard of driving was good.

I thought it was the busiest and worst run MSV day I have ever been to. It didn't help that they said that the track would be closed from 12:30 to 13:30 for lunch and then actually closed it from 12:00 to 13:00. The new section seemed to be lacking in grip perhaps because the tarmac is so new.

I have to agree with Ken (no, not about my driving but about the circuit).
The extra bits would be better suited to a go kart track although letting Ken and Ciro past only for them to both come off at the next two corners was nearly funny enough to make it worthy of their inclusion.
Towards the end of the day they were slightly more interesting but i'd rather be without them

That track day has saved me four grand in mods as I was planning on upgrades but to be able to keep up with a genuinely very well driven gt3 rs and set up GT2 in a Pss9 equiped 993TT is testment to the cars performance although I was the most knackered at the end of the day. Video evidence will be provided next time!
No matter how frustrating the new bits are bedford still has some very nice qualities in the for of run off.

I think i need the 4K mods.

That car is fast and considering you were on Road Tyres yikes i was amazed at the corner speed you got out of it.

.

Spend your money on a bar and harness, I did that in my VXR220, it made the car easier to drive and less tireing.

It would be interesting to see how the car would perform with drive to the front wheels disconected and a set of cups.

Your car was mighty quick, i was in the black 997 Gt3
I’m considering a 996 gt2 re our conversation about the resale value of them as their quite attractive
Not a fan of the new layout though...just more wear on the ruddy brakes..

I saw it from the air when flying to Sywell a couple of weeks ago.

It looked like it would be huge fun in the wet, but a bit dull in the dry.

Sounds like a great day - wish I'd have been there to see a well driven 993tt tustle with the focused GT's.... on my first track day in mine I was passed by everyone from a hot hatch to a BMW M Z4...and then was too embarassed to pass them on the long straight!

Alan apart from my driving I thought my biggest handicap was sliding about in the crap standard comfort seats - what have you got in yours? sorry the slight post hijak.

Alan's probably sat on a beach so I'll answer that for him.

He has GT3 seats but no harness.

what sections are resurfaced ?

as we have the 911uk Bedford Trackday on this friday evening as we're only running the west circuit, does it effect this part as well ?

Yes it extends the West circuit and apparently makes it much better as you are driving it from the opposite direction. The West circuit is why the GT has had this rubbish addded too.

it was my second time on the new layout, and I still dont like it. The middle corner with the large area of concrete run off is mildly amusing, but the rest is just hard on brakes with no enjoyment at all.

Still, it can be eliminated and returned to normal with just a few cones.

I was speakimg to one of the MSV chaps who admitted there were about an extra 20 cars on top of a normal day.
Hence the wait to get on track and for fuel.

Nice to have some cars to play with though.
