The official 0-62 figure for my 996 Turbo Cab Tip is 4.9 seconds (slow!), versus 4.3 seconds for the manual 996 Turbo Cab. But I see from the recent PH report on the new 997 Turbo Cab that the 0-62 time for the tiptronic is 3.8 seconds and the manual is 4.0 seconds! What's happened to the 997 Tiptronic that makes it faster than the manual?

I thought the Tiptronic system was pretty much the same between the 996 and 997. Is that not so? These stats seem to say otherwise.

Cheers,

I thought on the 997TT they slightly changed the gearing of the tip box - compensate for it having only 5 gears vs 6 for the manual.

This results in the faster 0-60 time for the tip.

Could be wrong though.

no its probably correct because a tiptronic can change gear quicker than a manual can.

From what I've read the Tip box in the 997TT is 'optimised' to the engine management unit so that you can preload the torque converter by keeping the brake pedal down, dialing in 4K of right foot and stepping off the brakes. Hey presto, away it goes. This method apparently accounts for the slight edge over the 0-60 time in a manual 997TT.
