Is it possible to get access to the near side cylinder head oil pump with the engine in situ? (C4 Tip) I have a slight oil mist from either the cylinder head oil pump or the sender unit that lives close to it. I can't tell exactly where the leak is from underneath but it's definitely one or other of these.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

It's not the leak I was looking at before, that's fixed.

Being a boxster owner and having the engine slung around the other way i can not help to much on the access side. The sensor is prob the camshaft position sensor, this has i a o-ring and just has one bolt fixing, easy fix.
The scavenge pump has a large o-ring and 4 bolt fixing and needs about 2-3 inches to be able to slide out. Note mark the flange and the block as you can get these 180 degrees out.
Hoping this helps Bob

Thanks Bob, it's more a case of working out if there's a route in from above on the 996... It may be possible if the alternator comes out but I can't tell. It'll save about a bazillion quid if it's accessible in situ yes

Hello

You can remove the scavange oil pump from both cylinder heads but main cause of oil residue around that area could possibly be above the pump is an oil seperator/breather box just make sure the bellows (flexi pipe only about 2"long is not split)its a little difficult to see on a tip and a ba$$tard to change in situ....
Also the vario cam solenoid with the wire can cause a leak..best advice is to wash it all off with brake cleaner and see what youve got ....

Oil air separator was changed last year so it better not be that!

I've re sealed the solenoid as that had a small leak. At least if the pumps are accessible from above it's a relatively inexpensive fix
