Cayenne to the rescue

Porsche students create a rapid ambulance

Slightly quicker than the usual IVECO...
Slightly quicker than the usual IVECO...
Porsche has been playing with the Cayenne again. Following the recent Transsyberia rally raid racer, this time it’s a group of 15 Porsche students getting their hands on an old-shape Cayenne S. The prototype you see here will apparently be employed by health and safety services now it’s finished.

The rear seat and boot area has been gutted, and refitted out with an aluminium stretcher holder and a single rear seat for the Doctor. The rest of the interior is stuffed with a full range of medical equipment and supplies.

Six Cayennes have already been prepared with different equipment for use in fire fighting, plant security and Health and Safety Services. "Every vehicle is unique with very special solutions. These special projects permit cross-divisional teamwork with the experience of mechanical designers, electronic specialists, vehicle mechatronic specialists, vehicle equipment assemblers and painters. The challenging task which requires the greatest hand-working skills and precise work, motivates the young men and women," Porsche Head of Training Dieter Esser said. The special attraction is the production of a product which is extremely useful instead of practical experience in a purely dictatorial way.

Thankfully, there's no RS orange paint...

Forget a clattering old Transit, if the worst comes to the worst, we’d rather be carted off in a Porsche. The question is: would all those Cayenne-hating, hardcore, Porsche RS lovers refuse to get on the stretcher?

To be honest I have always wondered why ambulances aren't faster, given the importance of speed in their role.

Following on from the hideous 'RS' Cayenne, it seems Porsche really want to protect their branding....

Well, How is the NHS going to afford these?
Considering we can't afford to see patients at present let alone get them to hospital in a Porsche!!

well we always wanted to know the truth as to 'where our money was spent?' and now we have the answer

although i agree with the previous post, they could have chosen something more attractive, the poor patient is going to get a heart attack seeing the front of that

Seems rather pointless as a quick estate car prepped by SVO will do pretty much what this can. A Cayenne's not *that* big inside.

They need to carry a shed load of equipment and often the importance is getting all that equipment to the injured blokey to stabilise them.. and then transport them to 'opital. Speed is only of huge importance in certain circumstances and in those circumstances, getting a vehicle to the person in time has got much more to do with planning rather than having a really really fast ambulance.

The force I know about (in detail) has rapid response vehicles that are quite happy to whittle along at 130. When riding in one of these with the lights & sirens I was quite amazed at how many muppets jump out / ignore it so even the top speed of those are rarely reached.

I know, one of my best mates is a paramedic. What I was thinking of though is when they are chugging up the motorway or a duel carriageway with lights and sirens going. Makes me feel guilty overtaking the buggers.

if i ever needed an ambulance id would rather that came as it would be much quicker than the normal merc ones. and if they had these then they would be able to get to more accidents etc.

Erm.. unlike the UK, this is Germany we're talking about, where public services ARE well funded!

Except, this is Germany we're referring to, not the UK. Your Mr brown and his sidekick Ken wouldnt exactly make them affordable to run would they! vat, fuel duty, road tax, congestion charge.. laugh

Despite the love it or loathe it styling, The 'S' is quicker than a Golf GTi with added off-road ability and why not? German plod use Porsches, Italians have tuned Alfas, Maseratis and the odd Lambo, US have Corvettes and Porsches. The UK? Astras, volvos and Iprezzas (nohing wrong with the Scooby apart from top end speed).
