Any good Porsche specialists in Yorkshire?
Discussion
I have just bought a 2003 Boxster S, I intend to have the servicing done at an OPC, but it would be handy to know if there are any specialists in the Yorkshire area for any everyday/small problems that may come up that anyone could suggest. I live in Driffield, East Yorkshire so it would also be handy to know of any local enthusiasts who don't mind a newbie asking silly questions

RPM Specialist Cars (share the same site as Gmund cars, a well-known indie dealer) in Harrogate? Not on your doorstep, admittedly, but they're generally well thought of, I gather.

'Porsche-Strasse' in Leeds decent indies as well; www.strasse.co.uk
Hi Homer J
Thanks for your comments, I will certainly go over and have a look at Specialist Cars.
You have prompted the question about service stamps from main dealer or a specialist. I'm all for the independant (especially as I used to work for the largest independant motor factor in the UK), and when I owned a TVR I did use specialists. But I was under the impression that the most important thing to look for when buying a Porsche is a full dealer service history, therefore I would want to keep my car service book dealer stamped.

Depends on the age of the car, I suppose.
When I was looking for my 993, I wasn't obsessed with seeing OPC stamps once it was a few years old, as long as they stamps were from a recognised indie. Indeed, since OPCs don't see 993s too much anymore, and I'd warrant that their spanner-monkeys (at least the younger ones anyway) don't have much experience of them, indies that know their onions are a positive advantage.
Depends on who you'll be selling to, I suppose. The "enthusiast" sector will be able to discriminate between backstreet garages and indies who are worth their salt.
Yup, Mark is certainly right on this one, i would tend to opt for an indy for the air-cooled stuff.
Like any modern garage these days they tend to plug in to a PC and look for potential problems...........not proper mechanics.
There is supposed to be a good indy in Sheffield next to the arena called Millbrooke i think, never used them but have heard positive reports, good luck with the search fella.

A very valid point, and I'd take seeing an OPC stamp in the service book as a very good sign. But seeing a Specialist Cars stamp, or stamps from a few of the other very well respected Indie's (Red Line, JZ for example) is no bad thing either. Remember the Indie's will generally do work on all Porsche model new and old, road and race.
If anything, I'd take it as a equal, if not a better sign than an OPC stamp as the car gets 2 to 3+ years old, as mentioned above. The Indie's will often get to know your car on an individual basis. An OPC would to a certain degree just see it as just another Boxster, 996, 997.
Spec Cars know my car inside out, it was serviced by an OPC after it's first 12 months, then it's been back to Malton every 12 months after that for the past 5 years. And across it' 3 owners.
But this is just my own opinion after sampling OPC's and Indies
