944. colour v price
Discussion
If you're looking for one in really good condition I don't think there are enough around to be picky, but if you can get the price down because 'your wife doesn't like the colour' or something then do it
Some colours certainly look better than others but when you're buying a car old enough to buy cigarettes imo colour is way down the list of priorities:
Condition
Price
Service history
Spec/mods
Mileage
Colour

If you like the colour don't let any resale problems put you off as its already factored into the price down the used car chain already.
I own a white 944 and its my best colour. Reds may attract more interest, even fetch a little more money but I don't like red on this car.
Pay's your money and takes choice !

Personally I don't mind white or even mahogany, it is metallic at least but if the car turned out to be a wrong'un I wonder if I would struggle to move it on ?. At resale time I think an unpopular colour could be worth around 20% less.
To be honest the market for 944's is such that condition is becoming all. I hear of people struggling to find decent ones that don't need a fortune spent on them, I'm not convinced colour would make a 20% difference. It might affect how quickly it sells but not price as such.
Maybe 20% is too large on the cars in very good condition that seem to command £6k +, but on the cheaper stuff that is under £4k I reckon an unpopular colour can be a deal breaker.I,ve been researching repair costs on turbos and S2s and to be honest unless I find one with all the potentially expensive stuff already done or really low on miles I'm going to keep my dosh in my pocket.
I do hope that all readers who are interested in buying a Porsche with a limited budget (say under £6K) stop associating low mileage with lower future running costs.
Most even low mileage cars will have covered over 60K by now and most models have issues relating to age - like radiator corroding at the plastic to core joint, head gaskets perishing and getting "thin", fuel and brake lines corroding, window mechanisms seizing up or wearing out - well the list is endless.
Much of the problem is worse on cars left standing rather than being used regularly - so very often a higher mileage car that is used a lot can have already had more parts replaced through useage and mileage reasons and those parts the refore do not eventually fail for age reasons (as they have already been replaced).
Properly looked after 944's and 968's with over 100K on then drive every bit as well as lower mileage alternatives and often even at 150K - if properly looked after - go just as well.
So you can save money buying a higher mileage car and enjoy it just as much.

Ok, they are all old cars at the end of the day, how about a low miler and with everything expensive replaced, lol. I'm probably being over cautious and the as new 944 turbo is probably in a private collection somewhere. time to get off my backside and start looking around.
