can anyone point me in the direction to explain something.

is the gt2 engine that same as the 450 engine upgrade to the 993tt?

i had a 430bhp tt, that was just the higher boost, oil cooler etc, but with the
450 you get the bigger turbos etc, so it that the same as the gt2??

cheers all

yes, the GT2 engine in Europe at least was the same as the Porsche powerkit upgrade - new ECU, K24 turbos, oil cooler and quad exhaust tips. In the US, it was 430hp.

Thanks. Quad exhausts? Never knew that. Am looking at the 993tt on 911sport.co.uk doesn't have them, also looking at a 450 at maranello few months ago, didn't have them either, presume it was optional?

the quad exhausts come as part of the pack but I've read quite a few didn't want to fit them as some believe they don't look as good as the big ovals.

I Looked at the car at 911sport.co.uk - it's gorgeous isn't it, lovely colour combination.

I would check it really is the 450 kit and not the 430.

Just looked at the pictures again - looks like the car has after-market exhaust tips which may well indicate after-market exhaust...which would explain the lack of quad pipes.

Early GT2's had the 430 bhp engine which consisted of a different ECU and an oil cooler. Also known as the X50 upgrade.

Later GT2's and the RoW Turbo S had a 450 bhp engine which consisted of a different ECU, larger turbos (K24's) and an oil cooler. Not sure what the X code is for this. US Turbo S's were fitted with the 430 engine upgrade.

Both of these upgrades could be bought as factory upgrades at build time on standard tt's or as retrofit kits.

Should have the quad ports but they are easily removed and replaced with the std end piece

I don't think it's as simple as that. See www.carnewal-europe.com/cpx_p93029.htm The quad tips look a lot longer and use a different type of clamp; it looks like a section needs to be cut off the standard silencer to fit the quad pipes meaning it's a one-way street.

Someone mentioned that the 450 kit could now be bought from OPC's for £2500 plus VAT and fitting.

I had the kit installed and the quad pipes fitted straight onto my standard silencers without any issues.

Without any mods to the silencer? See http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBa for an example of the standard tips; I don't understand how they could be interchangeable.

Yes some OPC's are doing very good deals on fitting 450 kit - amazing value for money for k24 based tuning.

Had a long conversation with a certain OPC and settled on £3.5k fitted including VAT. I know the parts manager but still I can imagine other OPC's offering similar. Didn't go for it in the end as I'll wait for my k16's to give up.

That's a good value for new turbos, a new ECU and the oil cooler and the fitting. But do plan on another £500 or so for replacement oil lines (the fittings seize on the lines) and heat shields and such. And there's room for another 50 bhp or so with tuning from someone like Manthey or similar.

I think the 450 hp power kit can be a bit laggy compared to the K16 based 430 kit. If your 16's are in good nick, might be worth going for a remap plus sports exhaust and cats, such as this.

Will cost a bit more but will easily outperform the 450 kit I reckon.

I went for the 450 kit AND a remap at the same time of my old ECU. Goes great now. Turbos come in at around the same time as the old K16s but the increase in power in much steeper.

I'll put the K16s up for sale when I get a bit of time.

Not sure that kit's good value really. Unless you have a 97 or 98 car you'll probably need to buy an extra ECU as they won't be able to reprogramme the 95 and 96 ECU's. And you'll be at the end of the line with K16's whereas the 450 kit has both a lower purchase price (with lots of new bits and nothing on an exchange basis) and another 50 bhp of headroom ready for you when you are. Just my tuppence though.

Hi Phelix, trust you are well

The 450 kit does not include a sports zorst / cats though, which would be essential to go higher than 450, so the £ for that needs to be factored in. I agree the CG kits are dear, though you would get it cheaper going through Tech 9 or Stuttgart Connection over here.

Know what you mean re maxing the 16’s when is comparatively cheap to get the K24 based 450 kit, but then if you really want a K24 based kit then the 493 hp power kit 3 on the CG website is the one then? It includes the required zorst / cats, etc, plus has the higher spec K24RS turbos.

Silver 993tt, who did your remap for you? What numbers did it produce?

Cheers,

MOD.

I also had 200 cell cats installed and the remap is designed for those aswell. It was done by Roland Heidl in Dusseldorf. He's an independent specialist and produced these maps originally in 1997/8. He also installed the 450 kit, did all my heatshields etc. He quotes 490hp for the map I have but he does have one for over 500hp. Haven't meauserd it but it does go rather well which was the idea
