Hopefully my last question before i actually bloody buy 1. I have been offered a 2004,low mileage, still under OPC warranty, new tyres, just serviced 996 C4S for a £1k less than a 2001 30k miles Twin Turbo. I know that this has been raised before and i am aware that the TT is faster, less prone to issues(allegedley) BUT i am a bit wary of paying £43K for a 6 year old car. I have no intention of Tracking it and will basically be using it as an everyday car, i also need rear seats so the Boxster/GT3 fans please refrain from recommending them

Kay-C's opinion much appreciated as i know you have owned both.

P.S. Had my friends Gallardo over the weekend again and the speed this car generates which i assume is on Par with the TT makes me in a strange way question if i could behave/keep liscense clean/stay alive with a TT as daily drive.

P.P.S. The C4S had the RMS done at 10k miles - Suprise,Suprise

Get the TT and put a warranty on it.

I don't see why it should cost you any more money to run except for a little more in tyres and fuel.

In simple terms the C4s is a lovely looking car, apart from that it offers little more than any other standard n/a car(and to be fair drives worse than most 2wd and narrow body cars). And its slow(a standard M3 will stay wth it).The 996 tt will impress you everytime you drive it and the c4s will do the opposite..the gap between the 2 cars is similar to comparing an R6 with an R1..i actually drove my 4s faster most of the time because it doesnt have the power to catch you out whereas the tt needs respect(especially if modded when the tt becomes a lot of fun).Choose what you want but you will get bored quickly with the 4s especially if a tt is within financial reach..all imo of course.

Mate how much is it going to cost you in depreciation, selling cost and time when you realise in two months time that you should have bought the turbo!!

Was in the exact same position as you two months ago, and i decided to hold on and save a few more pennies togther and get the turbo, im soooo glad i did.
The speed difference is just amazing, everything i drive now feels so slow.
I'm spoilt now!!

You know it makes sense!

Are all the Pro-TT guys saying a 996 C4S is basically an overpriced blinged up C4 with expensive Turbo brakes or is the TT that much better??

Also how do you guys deal with this type of accessible speed everyday? Do you get bored and start to drive it like a 3 series or is the urge always there to floor it? Remember i am in Scotland where you find some of the greatest strecthes of road with hardly any speed cameras.

As i said, you will drive the 4s quicker most of the time because thats the only time its fun..the tt will be fun just nailing it from 50-100 in a straight line when the turbs kick-in..nice feeling all that torque. The tt can do everything the c4s can do plus a lot more.

Ok guys, so we have dealt with the speed side of things - anyone have an opinion on how the early 2000 & 2001 high mileage TT's are holding out build quality-wise?

Anything starting to rust and fall off etc, etc? and is it true the OPC warrantys will stop being provided for the earlier cars in 2009 leading to a plunge in prices round abouts the time i would be uprading/selling OR would the prices hold as the 993 TT's have proven.

Sorry about all the questions - Just want to have everything covered.

I,ve had my C4S since January and am more than happy with the looks, speed and handling but I have never driven or been in a tt so I can not comment on the difference between the cars. The handling should be the same as they share alot in common. On the age thing I have an 03 and am considering p/x with a 997 later in the year because I tend to go for newer motors normally. I would have a problem with the age but as I've said before I have never driven one and may feel different if I had.

both IMO, that said the 4S is the best looking 996 after a GT2 IMO so they blinged up really well

I would rather buy a manual C4S than a tip TT, that said I'd rather buy a Boxster 2.5 manual than a tip TT !!

Forgot to add that my car is an everyday car, If I had a tt as a second car the age would not matter to me

My 01 tt had no rattles,no squeeks,no faults,no rust, but to be fair was 'zaino-pampered a lot'..I saw no build quality difference in any of the tt's i looked at(2001-2004) just the way they had been looked after, this is the major problem with a 996tt they generally are not owned by the sort of enthusiasts that owned 964's/993's etc and subsequently its harder to find a perfect one..imo they will always trade cheaper than the 993tt because of the rarity value of the older car plus the pressure of lots of 997tt's coming to the market over the next few years.

Build quality is no worries, my friends 2001 had sailed past 60,000 miles & no problems at all.

I had 996 C4S for exactly 6 weeks a couple of years ago. It was a dream car, intended to keep it for years. Then I made the "mistake" of driving a TT and just had to have one.

I know exactly what you mean Kay C as the the 2002 TT at my local OPC looked immaculate but the ones i have viewed privately and independantly looked there age hence thats what made me consider a newer C4S.

Thanks KayC and everyone else with there input.
