Hi all, at the risk of sounding like a complete idiot Im going to be brave and ask the q (maybe for the benefit of a few others too!) I have read quite a lot about MAFs 'going' on here and was wondering what the symptoms are of such a failure? I have recently purchased a 996TT and am wondering if such a failure would be obvious??

You'd normally see the abs/psm light on the dash if Maf goes.. Then you go into limp mode sometimes (.5 bar < also you're idle can be course...

Col. OPC seem to thing theres a bad batch going round as they've had to replace a few....

Cause, Fknows.

in answer to the question, how can you tell, abs and PSM lights may come on and / or:

Foot to the floor calls for lots of gas and the MAF tells the ECU to give it. If the ECU doesn't get correct fueling it spits and splutters, much worse at 5000 rpm up.

from a brief search of MAF using forum search....

As well as the dash board warning lights coming on the car will also cut out as the revs drop off. Which is a pain in the arse when you reach a junction.

Err, hang on guys. I dare to be different here but you don't always get the lights etc, as I understand it (happy to be proved wrong though...).

My Boxster felt a tad limp* and there was a definite hesitancy at about 4.8k in all gears what lasted for a few 10ths.

No lights or other form of warning and nothing reported by the brain when it was plugged in at the OPC.

Fitted a new MAF. I drove the car with the old one, then the new one.

Massive difference, hesitation gone, and response was soooooo much better.

*These things are relative okay
