73 RS restoration budget question

the friend and the car is in Germany; he got an initial quote north of EUR 120k (£80k) for the work (parts and labor) from a reputable specialist which seemed excessive to me, hence my post here
Sounds appropriate to me. He might even calculate 20% more as usual with restorations. A nut&bolt classic car restoration will never redeem financially. Ask him to get a quote from Porsche Classic GmbH if he's serious about the quality and ready to spend €€€.
Its future value will depend on who carried out the restoration. It is possible to have it restored at Zuffenhausen (see the current Christophorus). This would be the ultimate, but would probably cost near £200k.
Depending on its presnt condition, and how complete it is, £80k is a fair estimate. It's vital that it's done properly.
Do you know the chassis #? (911360****)

Simple really, value today anything between £125k and £200k subject to provenance and originality, or in simple terms what u start off with ...............but above all sympathetic refurb, give it to wrong guy could get ruined, no one will want it and at these levels buyers very fussy and most cars worth having well known.............so simple but perhaps not easy!
Hi Send me some photos,i can give you some idea.
What is the state of the running gear, chassis etc
The important one is the numbers,do they all match?
I have a friend in germany who built my 2.4s/st racer, restores cars for museums etc, father and son team, working on porsche for 40 years.
He will give you a price that will not run away with you, unlike the uk.
Also the car will be restored correctly, and look like a 73 car.At the end of the day ,its a 911,and very similar car to restore to any other 911,and should not be 80k unless its a basket case/body damaged,Knackered engine and box etc
I can post or send some photos of my car,and also a new build viper green group4 st being nearly completed for a certain triangle player in the uk.
Or as fbrs states buy a ready restored car.

My 356 A cabriolet I had restored cost double
what I thought it would and took twice as long to finish.
If you want it to be done properly the cost will go up + up
for example ... " Ive been offered a correct radio for your car ... £800
I have a correct tool for the toolbox £300.00 .... the list goes on and on
I had original time period parts on the car which took a long time to track down
from countries such as Switzerland/Germany and America
for example the best Speedo/Clock restorers is in America ( thats 3/4 months straight away )
just be prepared that you wont see the car for a least a year or two or three.......

That's what I'm thinking, how can a resto for a 73 911 get to that?
Me too. I just hope that the car is a genuine one to start off with. I'd establish its provenance before I pent any momney on it.

I don't doubt what you say but was you initial budget realistic?
Besides, maybe as 911s are more common than 356 parts might be in more plentiful supply so maybe cheaper?
A partner at a practice I used to work in bought a real basket case of an XK150 - took him a couple of years to get it refurbed and that cost him £45k all in, although the figure the wife knew was closer to £30k
